We recently came across a batch of Otterbox defender that we think are fake which we immediately returned to the supplier. Before we returned it we took some images. This guide is to assist you in identifying the real Otterbox vs the fake (counterfeit). Here are some signs to look out:
1. The quality of the packaging on the counterfeit is inferior. The part number and UPC number might be wrong in reference to your product color or model. I guess counterfeiters do not have the resources to customize each packaging so the put all different models into one packaging.
2. The inside part of holster quality is poor on the counterfeit one. It looks like it scratched all over. The finishing on the surface of the genuine one is smooth.
3. The Otterbox logo are not well embossed on the holster clip for the fake one. You can clearly see the depth and details of the logo on the plastic on the genuine ones.
4. The anti-slip surface are not molded smoothy on the holster clip on the counterfeit one. Also the mold is not contoured. On the genuine one you can see details of the anti slip material.
