How To Deal With Bad Sellers
One Story (of many)...
The seller stated the camera was in perfect working order and that there was nothing wrong with it. When I finally got it (seller sent it Parcel Post, saving themselves approx. $3, took about a week longer), the whole front of of lens mechanism was almost "bashed in" and the lens cover had trouble opening. In all fairness, the seller did "skate" a few of my questions, so I should have just let it go at that point.
This is what a buyer, sometimes, has to go through:
- Wait for the item (sometimes a long time)
- Carefully open, a sometimes, very unprofessional packing job
- Receiving an item that causes serious disappointment
- Contacting the seller and waiting, sometimes days, for their response
- Hoping that the seller doesn't start denying and blaming
- Repackaging the item, very carefully, to avoid potential conflicts, accusations, etc.
- Going out to a carrier or making arrangements for pick-up
- Spending, sometimes $20+, to get your money back faster
- Waiting for refund (they didn't have to wait for your money)
If the deal goes awry...
- Starting a case here at Ebay
- Writing out all the details of your case
- Dealing with a bad seller's denials, blaming, accusations, etc.
- Waiting for Ebay's decision about your money
- Putting up with a potential bad review from the bad seller
- The stress of deciding whether or not to give the seller a bad rating
All this and...
- You're still out $20+
- The time of repackaging and dealing with all the above
- A few more days of increased stress
- You still didn't get what you were looking for in the first place
What to do (in a nutshell)...
- Ask specific questions
- If the seller doesn't answer very clearly and politely, pass it up, let it go, do not buy it
If you do get a bad item...
- Give the seller a chance to refund you
- Write an honest review/rating, if the seller refunds you quickly, state it
- If you're going to rate them "Negative", sleep on it and talk to at least one other person about it
- If the seller is rude, still be honest, not vengeful, people ignore hateful reviews anyway
If the seller doesn't refund you immediately...
- Be nice, ask at least one more time, even if the seller is "inaccurate" in their statements
- If they don't refund you, even though you were nice two times, start an Ebay case
- Be factual and honest with Ebay, they are very aware that you are unhappy
To avoid all this trouble and stress...
- Ask specific questions
- If the seller doesn't answer very clearly and politely, pass it up, let it go, do not buy it
Happy Bidding!
