How to avoid brokerage fees when shipping to Canada

When shipping to Canada there are a number of different options including, USPS, FedEx, DHL, and UPS. If you want to avoid high brokerage fees FedEx International Economy or Priority is the way to go. Shipping DHL, FedEx International Ground or UPS will result in brokerage fees once you pass through customs. FedEx International air (economy or priority) has brokerage fees built into the shipping cost so there are no surprises once the package is delivered. Now, keep in mind that paying duties and taxes (HST) is still required. With as many items as I have shipped to Canada however I have found that you can easily get your items through customs with about 1/3 value of the item which will save your customs a ton of money on duties and taxes.
