Having a baby...What you'll really need at the hospital

What you will really need to take to the hospital when you have your baby

If you google this subject you'll come up with some stupid list that says you need to pack a huge suitcase full of stuff you won't even look at until you are unpacking it once you bring the baby home.  I wish I had this list when my son was born because I didn't bring the things I really needed and I brought the stupidest things that I didn't even take out of the bag.  I've broken it into things you'll need when you first go into the hospital and a bag your hubby or partner can bring to you once you are ready to go home.  Pack everything early so that you aren't rushed and so that your hubby doesn't have to pack it for you.

In the hospital

  • PJ's (gown with front access, if you are nursing)
  • Cheap cotton underwear (granny panties, make sure they are high enough so that if you have a c-section it won't touch your incision, trust me you'll wear your thong again, just not now)
  • Your own pillow
  • Plastic flip flops (for shower shoes)
  • Rubber bands
  • Bobby pins
  • Socks with grippers on the bottom or slippers
  • Hoodie (it gets cold in the hospital)
  • Camera
  • Cell phone (make sure you charge it and increase the minutes if you are already close to your max., I went over like 150 min the month my son was born)
  • Baby care kit (you'll need to clip the baby's nails once he/she is born, the hospital won't do it)
  • Boppy
  • Always maxi pads (the thin super long ones) the hospital has maxi pads but they are huge, uncomfortable and they don't absorb as well as Always, you don't want accidents.
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth brush, tooth paste, lotion)
  • Steal the booger sucker outer from the hospital, those work the best!

Going Home

  • Car Seat (Cold climate, you may want to purchase a Bundle Me Bunting for the car seat)
  • Nursing Bra
  • Sweat pants and t-shirt (don't try and be cute, just comfy)
  • Comfy outfit for your baby
  • Tennis shoes (if your foot will fit, otherwise I wore my slippers home)
  • Receving blanket

Good Luck!
