Hatching eggs,chicks and ducklings information

This is just a little note to help new comers to the fun of hatching your own babies.First and very important Chicks Take 21 days to hatch,Ducks take 28 to 35 days to hatch depending on breed,Quail take 16 to 21 days to hatch, geese are 28 to 32 days, peafowl 28 days etc...If You aren't sure send a message to the seller asking the hatch time for the eggs you are considering,It is best if you only have one small incubator to stick to one type of egg or several breeds with the same hatching times and load all your eggs at the same time,if you put eggs in at intervals you will not have a place to put the eggs when it's time to hatch without taking your other eggs out of the turner or risking to much bacteria building up in your incubator before you can get all the eggs to hatch. There is another easy method I have used and still use and that is to have a secound still air incubator set up just to move hatching eggs into as they start to Pip the shell,This keeps your main incubator clean and the extra one can be washed out between batches of chicks.Even though I have a large incubator I still keep several still air models just for hatching,I have one for duck eggs ,one for chicken eggs and one for peafowl eggs,Guinea eggs can be hatched in the same one as peafowl, geese in the duck one ,quail in the chicken one ,So I have less bacteria running around the incubators,I also clean and sterilize my incubators with Nolvasan ,But there are many other products designed just for incubators that work great.IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to sterilize your incubators between every use.Bacteria is one of the number one causes of sickness and death in chicks and ducklings of any kind. When recieveing eggs through the mail ,be sure to let them rest before placeing them in the incubator,I prefer at least 8 hours some people say 24 ,I think this is a matter of personal preference.Be sure your inc.has been up and running for at least 24 hours before loading eggs in and watch your temperature and water reservoirs closely all the way through the incubation.Room temp.can and will affect the temp.inside your incubator to some degree most models will mention this in the directions. As the eggs develope they will at times generate more or less heat of their own and this to will affect the temperature inside your unit.Eggs that get to dry will die in the shell because the chicks are stuck to the membrane and can't move enough to hatch.I hope this has been some help,If you have questions be sure to ask the seller, they should be willing to help if not try a different seller. One Last thought No one Can Gaurantee that chicks WILL BE SHOW QUALITY ,Even Show Quality Birds will produce less than show quality in their chicks from time to time.EGGS can come from Show Quality Stock But The Rest is a guessing game.If The breeder is doing a good job of breeding show quality stock then the chances are SOME of the chicks will be show Quality.Hope this has helped someone,Thank You And Happy Hatching.Pat
