Overview:
Tony Montana is the central character in the movie "Scarface." Written by Oliver Stone and directed by Brian De Palma, this remake of Howard Hawks' 1932 ganster film by the same name features a fictional Cuban refugee who comes to America in 1980 as a result of Fidel Castro's Mariel Boatlift.
Since the release of the film, the character of Antonio "Tony" Montana has "transended generations and continues to influence popular culture today." This guide focuses on the best (and the most practical) products the market has to offer: 10-inch figures, 18-inch figure(s), and "The World is Yours" Statue.
10-Inch Figures (eBay Search String: "Mezco Scarface")
What would a Tony Montana collection be without the distinctive voice of Al Pacino? In 2004, Mezco Toyz provided fans with just that when they re-issued two figures from their four-set Scarface 10-inch line that featured "improved articulation, sound, and a slightly different pakage design." The first of these two figures is called, "The Fall." This "Black Suit" Tony Montana sports nine unique movie phrases that includes: "I'm Tony Montana," "You think you can take me," "So, say good night to the bad guy...Last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again," "I bury those cockroaches," "What do you think I am, huh," "Who put this thing together, me that's who...who do I trust, me," "You wanna go to war...we talk you to war OK?" "Ya wanna play rough, OK," and probably the most popular phrase of them all, "Say hello to my little friend." Accessories include: a Machine Gun with Grenade Launcher and a Handgun.
On the other hand, "The Player" (White Suit) Tony Montana figure contains a different set of unique phrases that include: "All I have in this world is my bals and my word, and I don't break'em for no one, you understand," "I always tell the truth, even when I lie," "I call my lawyer, he's the best lawyer in Miami...he's such a good lawyer that by tomorrow morning, you going to be working in Alaska," "Me, I want what's coming to me," "Save your breath...You got nothing on me...You know it, I know it," "Calling me a liar," "You know what a chezzer is Frank. that's a pig that don't fly straight," "You wanna waste my time, OK," and "Y wanna play rough, OK." Accessories include: Sunglasses, a Cuban Cigar, a wad of cash in a Tony Montana Money Clip, and a handgun.
As for the figures in the initial Mezco Toyz four-set Scarface 10-inch line, I suggest that you only get the rare Scarface "The Runner" (Bloody Variant). Despite not having a voice chip, this "Runner" figure is a representation of Tony Montana's first job (given by big boss Frank Lopez' henchman, Omar Suarez) at the Sun Ray Hotel. It stands 10" tall and comes with removable sunglasses, small gun, 6 removable money stacks, "and real-to-scale paper bag you can stuff all the loot inside."
NECA's 18-Inch Figures (eBay Search String: "NECA Scarface")
Released by NECA Toys in 2006. Tony Montana gets a growth spurt by way of an 18-inch articulated figure (Blue Suit) that comes with an M-16 rifle. Much like its Mezco counterparts, this Tony Montana comes with its own set of classic quotes from the movie: "I'm Tony Montana, a political prisoner from Cuba," "All I have in this world is my bals and my word, and I don't break'em for no one, you understand?," "Who do I trust?! ME!," "I bury those cock-a-roaches!," "You wanna go to war?! We take you to war, okay?!," "Say hello to my little friend!," and "So say goodnight to the bad guy!"
By April of 2007, NECA Toys will be releasing a second edition (White Suit) Tony Montana figure. The pose is identical with the exception of the suit, weaponry (handgun), and a new face scuplt. There has been no word as to the movie phrases that will be used for this item.
Mezco Toyz "The World is Yours" Statue (eBay Search String: "Mezco The World is Yours Statue")
A limited production mini-statue of the now sold-out larger version. The resin mini-statue is approximately 5.5 inches in height and is a representation of the centerpiece in the small pool inbetween Tony's winding marble staircase. This is also the same pool which he plummeted to his death at the end of the film.
