German Riding Apparel and Tack Companies: HKM

This is the second guide to introduce one of the many German riding apparel and tack companies that are not so well known in the US. It is meant to give you some information about their products and maybe help you decide if you want to buy them or not.

HKM Reitsport GmbH:

HKM started in Germany many years ago with selling high quality saddle pads and blankets. In the meantime they offer a full range of English horse tack and riding apparel, and since 2012 a line of Western products as well.
This company is still not well known in the US, but with many repeat buyers, people begin to recognize the brand.

Some of my favorite HKM items are the different dressage saddle pads. Starting with the simple quilted cotton-mix square pad, which comes in over 20 (!) colors and with or without a silver/ gold trim, they also have pads with fancy quilting, in different fabrics and patterns for every taste and purpose. They are unbeatable in price and quality, wash and fit well and stay nice for a very long time.

As mentioned, HKM also offers riding apparel: breeches, vests, jackets, shirts, you name it....
Most of their full seat breeches feature a new seat material called "Alos". It is slightly stretchy, breathable and feels almost like real leather, but is so much easier to care for.
In the last few years HKM has broadened their assortment tremendously. While the knitted "stretchy" breeches were a buyers favorite a few years back, one now has the choice of many traditional and fashionable options, like denim or plaid breeches, and new woven high performance fabrics that are extremely stretchy, moisture wicking and breathable while being machine washable and dryer suitable.

I carry several brands of breeches, but the HKM's are by far the best fitting of them. It's amazing that they fit almost any body type and shape.
Since European breeches run longer than US brands, most people in the US can wear the regular size and don't need longs....

With a constantly renewed and fresh product line, HKM is a fun brand to carry. It never gets boring and I know they offer high quality apparel at very competitive prices! 

Of course they also have a wide range of bridles and leather goods, like girths, halters and even saddles.
With many different bridle designs available, often in black AND brown high quality leather, they have everything from schooling to show quality, but for a fraction of the price that you might pay for bigger brand names!

Although I have only tried a fraction of their product line, I am very pleased with the overall quality of everything so far. They are definitely worth their money!
