Some might think a domestic flat rate of $2 for First Class shipping of an item that weighs less than 1 oz is too much, but here are the facts:
The United States Postal Service charges the same amount for First Class MailĀ® Package shipping with the eBay seller's required Delivery Confirmation(TM) included no matter if the package is 3 oz, 2 oz, or even 1oz or less! In addition, eBay sellers are subsequently charged fees by both eBay and PayPal on the amount collected from the buyer to cover the shipping cost, which makes the actual cost to ship higher.
So there is this cost of getting items to the buyer that has to be accounted for, as there is no such thing as free shipping. Even when sellers tuck the cost into the Buy It Now price for various reasons, buyers are going to pay for the cost of shipping, unless...You can give some sellers a reason to give you free shipping.
Ask for it before purchasing a large amount of Buy It Now items, say 20 or more.
And even when you have already purchased a high dollar amount of items or ended up bidding a large amount on several items, say $75 or more, ask for free shipping when you ask for a combined invoice.
Also, be aware of how much shipping cost you are paying when you purchase multiple "free shipping" items from one seller.
Chances are the shipping cost is factored into the Buy It Now price of each item. Sellers who need to do this can help buyers by utilizing the Make Offer button. That way when a buyer buys two or more items marked as free shipping, the buyer can put in an offer that takes out the shipping charge for the second and subsequent items.
Hope these few tidbits help you! Happy eBaying!
