You are probably asking yourself, a guide on how to leave feedback? What is this? Well, let me tell you, I have seen people leave good feedback for people and really vague feedback. Feedback is what drives the Ebay system, so it is imperative that you not only leave feedback, but also leave quality feedback.
What is quality feedback? Quality feedback is leaving more than just the general "Great Transaction." It is important that you describe the transaction in the feedback. For example, lets say I bought a new video game, it came very quick and the seller was extremely helpful and provided me with tracking numbers and pertinent shipping information. I would put, "Faster shipping, seller helpful and courteous, supplied tracking info, item as described, perfect." Although this may seem like broken english and sound choppy, you only have 90 characters to get what you need to say across. Leave out words that are non-essential to getting your point across, such as the.
Why leave quality feedback? Remember, sellers and buyers need feedback so that other people know if they are truly a good ebayer. When I look at feedback, I look at more than just the overall feedback score, I read a couple pages of feedback. When I see a lot of "Smooth Transaction," this does nothing to help me decide to buy from this seller or know that this buyer is honest. However, if I see things such as Lightning fast shipping, seller extremely helpful and courteous, seller went beyond to makes sure everything went well, provided shipping information/delivery confirmation, buyer paid immediately, etc.
When should I leave neutral feedback? Neutral feeback is one of the hardest feedbacks to leave. It is hard to decide when to leave it and when it is deserved. You must simply go by a case, by case basis with this, however I will try to give you a general guide. If you aren't extremely happy with a transaction because of slow ship time or something of that nature, but the item came in the condition it was described, this usually warrants neutral feeback. Don't forget that shipping time isn't always the seller's fault so look at the postage date to know whose it is. Another example is if the buyer takes a long time to pay, but eventually does pay. If you are afraid to give negative feedback, neutral is usually a good idea.
What about negative feedback? If you are just plain upset about a transaction, you should first contact the seller or buyer before leaving negative feedback. Negative feedback permanently affects an ebayer's account and should only be left in extreme situations. For example, if you pay for an item and you don't receive it for a few days, contact the seller and they never contact you back, this warrants negative feedback and a claim on Paypal against the seller. Unless explicitly stated in the auction sellers will ship quickly. Sellers that do not contact you back are not concerned about customer service and other ebayers deserve to know about this seller. Be proactive and warn others about potential problems. Remember use negative feedback only in extreme situations where it is definitely needed.
What about retaliatory negative feedback? This is the one problem with the ebay feedback system. Many times if you leave negative feedback for a buyer or seller they will fire right back with negative feedback of their own because they are upset at you. If this happens you can ask for the feedback to be mutually withdrawn, but this won't usually work if it is retaliatory. Understand that there is a an honest ebayer, they will not fire back with retaliatory feedback. If negative is warranted, give it to the seller or buyer, do not worry about retaliatory feedback. You can respond to feedback so make sure if you get an unwarranted negative you respond to it with the facts.
Remember, feedback drives ebay, so every item you buy or sell, leave good, quality feedback.
