Ebay sucks! That sums it up pretty nicely. While it is the most used auction site by far - it is also one of the, if not, the worst auction sites in existence. High listing fees, high transfer fees, high percent given to auction site fees - it's just give all your money to eBay day everyday! It's even worse for small eBay sellers like me. I don't have a warehouse full of items, and I certainly don't buy anything wholesale! I just don't have those connections. It's just not worth it!
The fact of the matter is that eBay caters to big sellers. To people who have warehouses full of stuff to sell. That would be fine, except that most eBayers are small sellers! The whole point of eBay is to sell and buy items for cheap right? Well you can't do that when eBay is breathing down your neck and saying give me your cash! Right now the Execs at eBay are literally rolling in money, but it's just an outdated business system. Pretty soon it will all come crashing down (pardon the cliche, but it seems appropriate).
The listing and final value fees are way too high. If you compare it to other auction sites such as Ebid.net then you can really see the difference. Say that I sell a videogame for 6 dollars. 3 dollars would go towards shipping, about a dollar would go towards listing and final value fees, and if I wanted to donate to charity, then that would be another dollar. That leaves me with just ONE dollar. So basically, I would make more money trading it in to Gamestop (who would then proceed to sell it for 55$), then if I were to sell it. Where is the logic in that?
If eBay somehow decides to forgo their traditional sticking their heads up their investors' buttocks, and actually fix these basic problems, then eBay might actually be somewhat saved. Of course we all know that wil never happen.... Thank you for reading my semi-long rant about eBay.
