Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite
Bed bugs have been around since the 17th century and are commonly found in households, hotels, apartment complexes and other living quarters --- anyplace people and pets inhabit. Although called ‘bed bugs’, they may also hide in places away from the bed such as window and door frames, electrical boxes, floor cracks, wall hangings, drapery pleats, baseboards, and furniture.
Bed bugs are not necessarily a reflection of poor hygiene or bad housekeeping. They can be readily transported by personal items such as luggage or clothing after being picked up in theaters, buses, trains or other locations.
Some tips to avoid bed bugs:
Always make sure new mattresses arrive from retailers in sealed plastic wraps or cartons, thus eliminating the opportunity for contamination
Purchase a new bed rather than a second-hand mattress to help eliminate risk
Maintain a clean living environment and regularly exterminate your home
Avoid placing items used for travel, such as luggage, on top of your mattress and bedding.
