The Pickard China Company was founded back in 1897 by Wilder A. Pickard in Chicago, Illinois.
Pickard Porcelain mark
Originally Pickard China imported European china blanks from Havilands at Limoges, France and others. These imported blanks were then hand painted in Chicago at the Pickard China Company. When imported porcelain blanks were used the Pickard Mark and the blank manufacturers mark should both be present on the item. Thus indentifying earlier pieces from the latter works.
This is an Original Pickard Mark on a porcelain blank from J & C Barvaria (Marktredwitz Barvaria) Jaeger & Co. (c. 1872- )hard paste porcelain Note: that Pickard Mark is RED on Hand Painted Gold Leaf
Later Pickard China relocated to Antioch, Illinois were they continued to produce quality china wares, but produced it's own blanks.
The early Pickard China pieces include: Dishes, Bowls, Plates, Cooffeepots, Pitchers, Compotes, Coffee Sets, Wine Sets, Decorative Plates, Trays and Vases to name just a few items.
Many of the pieces that were hand painted at Pickard China in the early years are hand signed by the artist.
