Buying recycled electronics, and choosing a recycler

It is a noble gesture to buy recycled electronics these days. There is technology recycled happening world wide now. Recycled computers, networking equipment like Cisco and Sun, Cellphones and most other kinds of equipment can be bought at very reasonable prices. Many states and countries are mandating recycling to make it easier for the consumer to recycle also. Texas has just passed HB 2714, mandating computer manufacturers to provide free recycling for their products. More recently, SB329 was signed which mandates TV manufacturers provide recycling for the consumer. My advice is to buy from reputable sources. You can check out companies websites and find a lot of information. See if they are members of recycling organizations and are certified by ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISRI, R2, E-Stewards or other recognized affiliations. Read the adds carefully, most of the sellers will spell out the condition of the items. Check the sellers feedback, warranty policy, shipping policies etc. before buying. Also look for sellers and recyclers that will give a physical address (see about me in our ebay store), if all they list is a PO Box, that would raise a red flag for me.
