The most common question we get at Cat's Magical Shoppe is: "I'm new to Paganism, what books do you recommend?" Our answer is "Start with Scott Cunningham." His writing style is great: easy to understand and follow, but not boring or condescending. Two books in particular, "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" and "Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" are two must-haves. Scott also wrote a great beginner's guide in "Divination for Beginners."
If you are looking for a fictional tale of Paganism, no library is complete without "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley.
For specific spells for the more advanced Wiccan or Pagan, a great book although sometimes hard to find is "A Pagan Book of Rituals" edited by Herman Slater. If you have more questions or for a more lengthy lists of recommended reading, please contact us at
