Antique Doll...or Reproduction...how can you be sure ?

First time I was confronted by a customer who bought an antique doll from me questionning the dolls authenticity prompted me to write this quick guide to recognizing a genuine antique doll from a reproduction .First of all , let's define the term "Antique Doll " :  Antique Doll definition : The classic definition of an antique doll is an item that is ca. 100 years old or older .However , all dolls created before approximately 1930 are considered antique. This is a somewhat arbitrary division , but in general .most pre- 1930 bisque- , china- , papier-mache- , wood- and wax dolls are considered antique by collectors. Expert advice vs taking your chances -  would you buy a Rolex watch at the street corner ? Novice collectors often aren't aware of the benefits a true doll specialist presents to the inexperienced antique doll seeker. Here are just a few avantages a doll expert brings to the table :  - Intimate knowledge about the maker of the doll ,  - Expert judgement about the age of the doll and most importantly : seasoned awareness about the true condition of the doll ( could have a damage or hairlines , could be restored ! ) A genuine antique doll specialist knows his / her merchandise well and can tell you far more about the materials which make up the doll and the associated market value of the merchandise. A common concern : Aren't specialists too expensive ? Not necessarily ! A seasoned antique doll dealer will be motivated to sell at fair market prices , encouraging repeat business and positive referrals. He or she will also give you a guarantee or a certificate including thorough detail about your new investment. Some tips for buying an antique doll : 1. Be sure your feeling about the doll and seller is good ! 2. Review the " Feedback comments " page on ebay and sellers background ! 3. Avoid offers with unclear  photos ! 4. Ask seller for additional pictures, showing body parts and damage, if is  a damage mention  ! 5. Ask seller if the item in question is on consignment. 6. Ask seller if he is a member of UFDC  and /or member of Nadda.
