This whole thing with Myspace has caught on like wild fire. Almost every one I know has a page or is going to make a page soon. I just do not get what all the excitement is about. All that you are doing is putting information about yourself on the web, so strangers came come and ogle over your blogs and pictures. I thought the goal was not to have information about yourself on the internet to protect yourself from sexual predators, identity theft, and other unwanted hassles.
But, it seems like millions of people are not worried about those threats and put personal information up on Myspace anyways, ignoring the possible consequences. I will have to admit, myspace has done a great job in accommodating people making profiles on their network. My friend told my the other day to go and check out his hyphy layout myspace page. At first I did not get what he was saying. I mean I was thinking what was a hyphy layout myspace page anyways.
He explained to me that with his profile on myspace, there was a template for a layout for a page that emphasized the hyphy movement going on in the Bay Area. To myself, I said, “Yep, they got you hooked too.” That is where the idea of Myspace turns into genius. They allow people to customize their own pages with certain layouts, colors and graphics that reflect their own personalities. The whole idea of customizing your own profile on a page for all to see is very appealing to many younger people.
They want to express themselves and they can do it on Myspace, maybe something they cannot do in real life or an expansion of their outgoing personalities. Personally, I can not see the hype, and that is why I do not have a page for myself.
