Whats the difference between gold filled or gold plate

Gold filled is usually 14/20 which means it is 14k yellow gold rolled with brass or base metal. The gold does not wear off and usually will keep its luster for over 20 years. I have had many customers bring me in their old gold filled jewelry to show me how it still looks brand new from 20 years ago.

Gold plating is usually sterling silver plated with 14k , 18k , 24k which is a form of gold but it is a very thin plating that will wear off within a years time. When you view electroplated I am speaking about the same thing. The gold is electroplated or zapped onto the silver item.
