Most don't know that more than 90 years ago, cartoonist, illustrator and storyteller Johnny Gruelle gave his daughter, Marcella a gift - a long forgotten rag doll that had been stored away for years in an attic.  Johnny drew a new face on the rag doll and named her Raggedy Ann.

A loving smile and always ready to be hugged, Raggedy Ann quickly became Marcella's constant playmate.  Johnny was amazed at the effect Raggedy Ann had on his daughter and he was confident that she would appeal to other children.

Johnny sent a hand-drawn illustration of Raggedy Ann to the US Patent Office and was awarded, what we now know as a Birth Certificate, dated September 7, 1915.  A phenomenon was officially born.  Today Raggedy Ann and her brother Raggedy Andy are timeless classic characters that continue to spread Johnny Guelle's values of generoisty, compassion and love to generations of boys and girls around the world.

Raggedy Ann and Andy celebrated 90 years this past year, 2005 and you can find commemorative certificate dolls in my Ebay store.  Each come doll comes with a certificate of authencity and is individually gift boxed, ready for gift-giving.  Fans, collectors and children around the world have been fascinated with these two red head's.  Add this duo to your collection as their legacy continues to inspire joy and love in new generations for many years to come!
