How to tell if your Boyds Bear is valuable!

Over the years, I've come to realize that you are ony as good as the materials you have. What I mean is that you can't just go to a thrift store or a flea market and think that you will find the most valuable thing there.

Spend a few bucks and get yourself a copy of both the Boyds Tracker, 2nd version and the The Boyds Collection Collector's Value Guide, 2001 Edition. These are great companion books when it comes to information.

I've personally been lucky enough to find a Dark Brown Bean Bear in a thrift store and paid a whopping $1.41 for it... all because I know what to look for! (He was sold for $76... talk about profit!)

Oh, and don't let the value guides fool 'ya... just because it says that a bear is worth some cash doesn't mean that if you are trying to sell her, that that's what your going to get.

Hang Tags and original neck ribbons also help with the value of your bear!

Determing the TRUE value!

Let's take Bailey Bear, for example. The 1st Bailey, which I'm proud so say that I own, has a value of  $644, according to the Boyds Tracker. She was in a lot recently that only sold for a little more than $150. ((Don't think that just because she was in a lot that she was overlooked because any true Boyds lover can spot her a mile away!)) Anyway, I've also seen her go as high as $650.. which was crazy! Unfortunately, that was a one time deal. In the past, she averaged around $300 a sale. Now, you're lucky to get between $100-$200 for her, lot or not. To me, this is an indication that her value is decreasing... but that's only my opinion.

One thing to remember is just because it has a high value doesn't necessarly mean that it's 'valuable.'

Some of the below listed originally started at $120 and now have a value of $150, increasing only $30.

Whereas a bear like Bailey, for example, has increased her value a little more than 29 times her original cost!  You might think that Fleurette Bear having a listed value of $700 is 'more valuable' but when you do the math, you'll see that her value had only increased 28 times her original value.

Now that's the mathametical part of it. Other factors also apply. Bailey was mass produced whereas with Fleurette Bear, there were only 6 made, thus making her extremely rare and hard to come by. That's the more important factor which makes her the more valuable bear, all facts included!
