Hermes first produced this Cliquetis scarf design by Julie Abadie in 1972.  There have been many fake version of this design.  Some are very obvious, others you will need the details to decide if you are being offered the genuine item.  There has been enough time for these fakes to cycle through the market and come back as vintage scarves from "the estate of a wealthy lady" and such.  The Seller may take the Hermes on the scarf at face value.  You should not.

EBAY has lst the pictures for this guide. Please have a look at www .facebook/Hermes.Scarf.Guides ....you need to take out that space of course! G.

Here is the genuine scarf.....

These scarves with big bold HERMES all over them are FAKES.......

There are some slightly more accurate and subtle fakes, so you need to now the details of what the genuine scarf should be like...

The Hermes copyright has changed in later re-issues.

Julie Abadie signature and C in corner under the title.........or Hermes Paris C on the blade of the sword of the GENUINE scarves.

ANY Cliquetis that has a Hermes Paris in the corner like these below are FAKES.....

.....................FAKE............................................................FAKE.............................................................FAKE!!

Resume:

a: If you can see a Hermes Paris in the corner then it is a FAKE.  The Hermes Paris should be included into the design.

b: Huge Hermes Paris anywhere is FAKE.

c: Don't buy a Cliquetis unless you can see the copyright and signature in the corner.  Ask the Seller to supply extra photographs.  A genuine Seller will be happy to do so...or most likely have included them in their listing already.  Fakes are very common and are often listed with one fuzzy photo.  Follow the guide above and you may well avoid paying designer prices for cheap fakes.

UPDATE:  Hermes have issued Cliquetis in some striking new colour options for the 2010-2011 season.  Fakes in these new colours are already available too......

Constructive feedback is always welcome via the Ebay emailing system, or you can leave your comments in my Guest Book.

PS:  Have you ever wondered about the title of this scarf?  Cliquetis is French for "rattling".  Hermes love play-on-words....do you get it??
