Probably not as long as we know that there are awesome bargains awaiting us that can be found with a little effort and imagination. My experience, as a Platinum Level Powerseller, providing many thousands of bargains to thousands of very excited customers, will give you insight into simple ways to find the best stores that deserve your attention and hard earned dollars. In return, you will be blessed with less stress and problems than ever before and often find those rare and hard to find true bargains that we all seek every time we sign in to Ebay!
These 4 methods will uncover honest and trustworthy sellers who deserve and covet your business and will improve your buying experiences now and for the future. These 4 observations will allow you to start buying only the best quality products from the very best sellers who offer the lowest prices and the highest level of customer satisfaction in the world. Yes, there are still wonderful bargains available every day to those who are willing to spend a little time doing their homework.
First, let us look at Powersellers. Those supposedly elite sellers that continue to excel at selling large volumes of products month after month. The way these store are usually presented by Ebay to the rest of the Ebay Community seems to indicate that these are the stores that you can trust the most for your hard earned dollars worth. Is that true? Sometimes YES, buy usually NO!
These larger volume sellers are perceived by most buyers as the most likely to give the best value. Granted, some Powersellers are just what they seem to be, successful, honest, hard-working individuals that want to give you the best value possible. However, most sellers sorely lacking in many traits we would prefer to find in the people we deal with on a daily basis. Most of us no longer expect to find an incredible bargain every time we bid or click the BUY NOW button as we did the first few times we tried Ebay as a source for goods and excitement. Over time we have discovered that Ebay is simply just another source of products like the local Mall or the Mom and Pop store down the street...just another alternative.
It does not have to be like that, Ebay still has some stellar examples of real bargains day in and day out! But how do we find them? Please follow the four methods below and you will again find excitement, anticipation, and yes, even true incredible bargains every day on Ebay!
METHOD ONE. FEEDBACK TIMING BY SELLERS!
The first sign of potential problems with any Ebay seller is the timing of their POSITIVE FEEDBACK left for their customers. I am amazed that Ebay still offers two options for automated POSITIVE FEEDBACK for a sellers buyers. The Ebay Community would be far better served with only one automatic choice!
First, they are offered the option of leaving POSITIVE FEEDBACK the second their buyers pay for the merchandise through PayPal. This seems logical as the buyer has now completed all their obligations to the best of their abilities. What more do they need to do to make them perfect customers? Nothing! Their job is done!
Secondly, Ebay offers another option to sellers that leaves POSITIVE FEEDBACK ONLY after the buyer purchases, pays for through PayPal, receives the products and is them happy enough with the transaction to FREELY feel elated enough to leave glowing POSITIVE FEEDBACK for the seller!
Let's face it, there is only one possible reason any Ebay seller would ever select to leave POSITIVE FEEDBACK for their customers ONLY after the buyer leaves POSITIVE FEEDABCK for them! Sniff, sniff, is something starting to smell a bit here?
Could it possibly be that they are afraid that without holding over their buyers the SILENT THREAT of NEGATIVE FEEDBACK if the buyer dares to complain about poor quality, the month long trip from the seller to the buyer, or the fact that the description of the item in the listing and the actual received product are as different as night is from day!
Can anyone think of any other reason to WITHHOLD the POSITIVE FEEDBACK that is well deserved when the buyer purchased and paid for the item the same day? What is the problem with this type of seller? Am I the one missing the point here? What else could any seller expect and hope for, than to have a customer buy a product and them pay for it promptly? Isn't the buyers job complete? I think so...don't you?
There are only a few possible reasons for this behavior. The seller is afraid that there is a high probability that many buyers will complain and even leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK unless they hold the buyers hostage with that SILENT THREAT OF NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.
THOSE REASONS MAY BE:
1.) The extended time it may likely take to process your order and get it delivered to your door.
2.) The quality and value of the product once you actually hold it in your hand.
3.) The product may not match exacty the description and quality listed and pictured in the listing that prompted you to buy it.
Unfortunately, Ebay has yet to decide to clamp down on this poor policy favoring dishonest, but financially successful sellers! These sellers are allowed to profit greatly and break Ebays own written policy denouncing THREATENING NEGATIVE FEEDBACK BY SELLERS. Hopefully, if enough of the Ebay Community complains hard and long enough, this will change and improve every honest Ebayers experiences buying and selling by eliminating these hostage takers.
Just how strong is this SILENT THREAT OF NEGATIVE FEEDBACK? Consider a Powerseller with a rating of 25,000 who sells hundreds of items each day. If they did receive a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, it may or may not effect their FEEDBACK RATING AT ALL! If it does effect it visually for the world to see, it would move it at the most from 99.4% positive to 99.3% positive. No big deal!
However, if a newbie with a perfect 10 rating with 100% feedback receives one NEGATIVE FEEDBACK from that same seller because they dared to complain after trying to return the black fishing pole they received instead of the red walking cane they ordered and paid for and then were told to go fishing by the seller... what happens? The buyer immediately has a very imperfect 9 feedback rating and a dismal 90% FEEDBACK RATING that usually is perceived to other Ebay sellers and buyers alike as BEWARE OF THIS NEW, IGNORANT, COMPLAINING, DISFUNCTIONAL INDIVIDUAL WHO WAS JUST RELEASED FROM THE MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY! Is that fair for the buyer who did everything right? No, but is is a fact of life every day on Ebay, hopefull that will change.
There are several ways to discover these less than honest sellers on Ebay, but the quickest and easiest way is to simply ask them. Ebay does have a good system of communication available to do just that. Use the Ebay message system and ask them if they leave POSITIVE FEEDBACK for buyers immediately after they pay for the product or if they wait to receive POSITIVE FEEDBACK from the buyer FIRST?
If you receive no replay, it can usually be construed correctly as saying NO, BUG OFF FLAKE, I AM A POWERSELLER...YOU ARE A WORM!
If you receive a positive answer in a timely fashion, especially with a personal touch and encouragement to purchase an item with a 100% satisfaction guarantee of your money back...you are well on your way to more and better sleep knowing that you are likely to actually receive soon the item you paid for from a real person somewhere in cyberspace! Great start!
METHOD TWO. SELLERS ERASED NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!
Another little trick many sellers use to hide their true colors, with Ebay's blessings, is to have most, if not all, of their NEGATIVE FEEDBACK REMOVED BY EBAY! It is also taken out of their FEEDBACK RATINGS COMPLETELY. Look on any Ebay Store Home Page just under the FEEDBACK RATINGS and you will see a small phrase that says
RATINGS MUTUALLY WITHDRAWN:1...OR maybe...
RATINGS MUTULLY WITHDRAWN: 1000
Some are well over the 1,000 mark!!! They now have the option of emailing any buyer who left them a negative and say, "Hi, I am willing to have your latest NEGATIVE FEEDBACK REMOVED FOR YOU which reads BEWARE, 2ND GRADE GRADUATE DOES NOT PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS AND IS DEMENTED if you would like to have the NEGATIVE FEEDBACK DELETED that you left for me and reads I AM SORRY , BUT I RECEIVED BLACK FISHING POLE, BROKEN IN THREE PLACES BY THE WAY, INSTEAD OF THE BLACK MAHOGONY WALKING CANE I NEED TO GET UP AND REACH THE DOOR EVERY DAY TO GET MY MAIL AT THE FRONT DOOR AND YOU DID NOT REPLY TO MY 412 EMAILS AND MESSAGES!"
If a Powerseller cannot get you to willingly agree to retract your NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, they simple can hire a company suggested by Ebay to interceed on the sellers behalf to somehow get you to agree. I am not sure exactly how they do that, but surely waterboarding is not one of the methods...is it?
The point is to check the number of RATINGS MUTUALLY WITHDRAWN to make sure the number is in line with common sense and their other ratings.
One caution: There are times when this deleting of NEGATIVE FEEDBACK is best for everyone. I had one sweet Italian gal give us the most impressive POSTIVE FEEDBACK imaginable. She used the most wonderful description of our products and service. She made us sound like we were the creator of every perfect pearl strand in the universe and could not have been more complimentory; however; it was left as NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!
It took one quick email to her to discover that she had mistakenly selected the wrong box to check when leaving what she thought was glowing feedback. She is still one of our most loyal clients and she still apoligies every time she orders again...we love her. She is like us, not perfect!
To be completely fair to all sellers, please remember...the higher their positive feedback is the more leeway we need to give sellers for a few possibly unfair NEGATIVE FEEDBACKS that are undeserved and are now RATINGS MUTUALLY WITHDRAWN:1
METHOD THREE. READ TWO PAGES OF A SELLERS FEEDBACK!
Perhaps the best way to find the best stores on Ebay is simply to read a few pages of their feedback. It only takes a few minutes to scan them and immediately you will see a pattern common in the Ebay Community...most FEEDBACK is very similar!
Let's be realistic, you and I are not looking for the average seller on Ebay, we want to uncover only the best sellers that have the best bargains to thrill us...right? You want to only locate the EXCEPTIONAL SELLERS who offer the BEST BARGAINS in the world!
Ebays' FEEDBACK SYSTEM is far from perfect, but it can work for you, if you do your homework. I discussed the feedback hostage situation earlier by some sellers. That fact, and others, may make what first appears to be GLOWING FEEDBACK may actually be pretty common fare on Ebay.

All these are left for sellers every day thousands of times. They are POSITIVE FEEDBACK! However, how positive are they? Is there any real excitement in any of these examples that we see every day? Is there any real commitment, any proven loyalty, anything out of the ordinary in any of these well-worn comments? NO! NO! NO!
What we need to look for is comments that are freely given and reflect an exceptional buying experience that is both uncommon and exciting!
OH MY GOSH, IT IS CHRISTMAS ALL OVER AGAIN, JOHN'S JEWELRY WAS SENT TO ME FROM GOD!
I CANNOT BELIEVE THE QUALITY AND SIZE OF THIS 4 POUND DIAMOND FOR ONLY $5.00...I SOLD IT THIS MORNING TO PLACE MY DAUGHTER IN A FINISHING SCHOOL IN SWITZERLAND!
WOW, I AM AMAZED AT THIS SELLERS QUALITY, LOW PRICES, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!
THIS IS MY 14TH ORDER FROM THIS SELLER IN THREE MONTHS, THEY ARE THE BEST COMPANY IN THE WORLD!
I HAVE NEVER RECIEVED THIS QUALITY BEFORE...EVEN AT 10 TIMES THE PRICE, YOU MUST BUY FROM THIS INCREDIBLE SELLER BEFORE YOU DIE!
OK, OK, these are a bit on the high side of what you will find, but you can find some that make these comments seem pale and dull! I wish I was allowed to give you some real examples from our store, but that would be self-serving and we would not want to do that. When sellers BLOW YOUR MIND with incredible products at very low prices...what would you leave for FEEDBACK? You would take the time make sure your comments were EXCEPTIONAL. Of course you would on those rare occassions! So look for these exception comments and even more for sellers that have MOSTLY EXCEPTIONAL COMMENTS, not the ordinary canned comments we see in every sellers feedback.
METHOD FOUR. LEARN THE NUMBER OF RETURN CUSTOMERS A SELLER HAS!
This is the easiest and most rewarding calculation you can do to enhance your Ebay experience! Think of going into a new store in your town that just opened its doors. You are excited to see what appears to be incredible bargains all around you. You quickly purchased three of the most exciting items and run home to gloat. However, after closer examination of the bargains from your new favorite store...you realize that each item has imperfections and are probably seconds of worse...used goods!
You rush back to complain a receive a refund, only to see at the door a sign that says ALL SALES FINAL...NO REFUND...EVER...DO NOT EVEN DARE TO ASK!!!
How many more times are you going to go back and shop at that new store? Never! It is the same on Ebay!
Unfortunately, Ebay has so many choices that many sellers, if not most, have few return customers! It is easy to uncover these lack-luster, ordinary, "buy only once" type stores. If a particular store has a FEEDBACK RATING of 30,000...it must have many very happy return customers...right?
The surprising answer can be a resounding NO!
To quickly fnd the stores that offer the real bargains to all buyers, look for stores that people return to every time they shop! If you find the best quality at a very low price...would you not return again and again? Of course you would; everyone would, it is human nature!
Part of this infornation was discovered by reading the two pages of the sellers feedback; however, the RETURN OF THE HAPPIEST CUSTOMER RATING will uncover a few stores that everyone loves and everyone returns to every chance they get! Isn't that the type of store you want to bless with your loyalty and your hard earned cash? The type of store your Grandma and Grandpa told you existed in the 1950's where the words "customers" and"best friend" were indishtinguishable?
Go to any Ebay Store Home Page and find their FEEDBACK RATING. Below the FEEDBACK RATING of 30,000, you will find another number called ALL POSITIVE FEEDBACK. For this example, let us use a figure of 90,000 for the number of ALL POSITIVE FEEDBACK. These are big numbers, so it must be a great store...correct? Maybe, maybe not.
Now divide the ALL POSITIVE FEEDBACK OF 90,000 by the FEEDBACK RATING OF 30,000. That is a rating of 3. That means that the average customer has purchase 3 items from this mega, super successful store in the customers lifetime! Not three items per purchase, but three items ever!!! It may well have been a single purchase as that is the average number of items Ebayers buy when tryong a new store.
Now if that seller is selling automobiles in Ebay Motors..that is an impressive 3!
But, if that seller is selling beads or some product that its buyers need every day to make crafts in their homes...3 is a dismal number that may indicate that the seller sells to most customers only one time! Most people buy 3 items from any new seller the first time they try them...right? Do you ever buy only one item, unless it is a big ticket item like a TV set or an computer. For less expensive items 3 is a terrible score indicating that most people who buy from that seller are not going to buy there again!
For most types of goods, a rating of 11 or more is a healthy RETURN OF THE HAPPIEST CUSTOMER RATING. The higher the better. 11 is hard to find and we must remember that sellers that have larger volume do have new buyers every day. If you limit your Ebay buying to only sellers with a 11 HAPPY RATING or better, you will see the quality of your purchased rise and the cost of the same purchased go down! Under 11 usually means first timers are much more likely to buy in that store than repeat customers.
However, a minimum rating of 12 or better will show your the cream of the Ebay crop in customer satisfaction time and time again!
If you are a perfectionist, or a real bargain hunter, and only the best stores will satisfy your quest for perfection, look at all four of these methods and find stores that score high in all four areas. By using all four critera in finding the best of Ebay you will first eliminate 80% of the average to terrible sellers in a heartbeat. This will allow much more productive time to find the stores that will change your life and excite your senses again. You will begin to buy better and better products at lower and lower prices and stress and problems will no longer be a part of your Ebay experience!
Like everything good in life...perfection is hard to locate. However, finding a few EBAY GEMS along the way will give you much satisfaction for years to come. It is likely that you will now obtain all the bargains in your life at a fraction of what others pay and keep the source a secret! After all, secrets are one of the joys of this short life!

QUITE A FEW LARGE POWERSELLERS NOW CLEARLY STATE IN THEIR RETURN POLICY THAT IF YOU, FOR ANY REASON, LEAVE EITHER NEGATVE, OR EVEN NEUTRAL FEEDBACK FOR THE SELLER...THEY WILL NOT KEEP THEIR OBLIGATIONS AND PROMISES TO REFUND ANY MONEY THEY OWE YOU WHEN ITEMS ARE RETURNED!!!
ARE THESE REALLY THE TYPE OF PEOPLE ANYONE WOULD EVER WANT TO DEAL WITH IN ANY BUSINESS. I SUGGEST YOU COMPLAIN TO EBAY WHENEVER YOU FIND THESE ILLEGAL PRACTICE CLEARLY STATED IN RETURN POLICIES IN EBAY! IT SOUNDS LIKE A THREAT TO ME...HOW ABOUT YOU?
LET'S FACE IT, EBAY ONLY TAKES A STRONG STAND WHEN WE, THE MEMBERS, COMPLAIN AND CONTINUE TO POINT OUT THAT THIS IS ILLEGAL AS A POINT OF LAW AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED...PERIOD. EBAY STARTED OUT WITH BUYERS AND SELLERS BEING EQUAL, WE NEED TO REMIND MEG AND ASSOCIATES THAT EBAY SHOULD ALWAYS BE FAIR TO BOTH SMALL BUYERS AND LARGE SELLERS. THAT IS WHAT MADE EBAY WHAT IT IS TODAY AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL WAKE UP SOON AND REALIZE THEY HAVE SOME SERIOUS POLICING PROBLEMS WHICH THEY SIMPLY ARE IGNORING.
WE LOVE EBAY, BUT IT COULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF THE RULES APPLIED TO ALL MEMBERS EVENLY AND FAIRLY! EBAY CAN BE STRONGER AND GET MORE RESPECT IF THEY WOULD LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD AND GIVE THE HONEST SELLERS AND BUYERS THE ADVANTAGE AGAIN OVER THE DISHONEST ONES. SOME OF THE BIGGEST POWERSELLERS WOULD NO LONGER BE POWERSELLERS BECAUSE THEY COULD NEVER STAY ABOVE THE POSITIVE FEEDBACK BENCHMARK IF THEY WERE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO BULLY BUYERS INTO LEAVING THEM POSITIVE FEEDBACK...NO MATTER HOW TERRIBLE THEIR SERVICE AND PRODUCTS ARE.
