Old School Lockers.
Maybe it's my recent late-night binge watching of Gilmore Girls that has me feeling nostalgic for my high school years but I'd like to think that my current state of infatuation with
vintage metal lockers has more to do with their timeless off-beat charm and old-school edge. Call me crazy, but I can't seem to shake the appeal of throwing caution to the wind and mixing in an unexpected dash of industrial chic to an otherwise prim and proper room setting.

Lockers are a Great Storage Option.
Vintage lockers are a great way to add additional storage if you're low on places to store your coats and books. But why limit yourself to the traditional uses for school lockers? If you're already shaking up your room decor with some repurposed vintage, why not get creative and use those
lockers for something other than what they were originally intended? Unleash your inner teenager and let the rebellion begin!

Repurposed New Life to Old Lockers.
Personally I think the dull metal finish and occasional graffiti is a fun and authentic touch. The scratches and scrapes show the life and personality of the lockers but if you can't hang with the funkiness, don't let that stop you from using them in your home -- they'd be easy to powder coat in any number of bright colors. A set of lockers refinished in a punchy primary color would be a great way to add style and storage to a kid's room. Or stick to a clean white finish and use the lockers in your living room as storage for your
vintage record collection. You could even repurpose a couple of cubbies as a liquor cabinet and keep your
imbibing accessories hidden away. There's something sort of daring and devious about stashing your
cocktail supplies in the cubbies of an old school locker set...

Vintage Lockers Tell Great Stories.
For those of you who, like me, reminisce about the past life of a vintage piece,
lockers are a great foundation for building a story. Maybe they bring you back to the days when you'd wait, moon-eyed, for your high school crush or give you a little rush when you think about the alternate identity you secreted away in that big metal box (black lipstick and
Sisters of Mercy posters, anyone?). Whichever blast from the past these lockers bring up for you, there's something nice about a piece of furniture that comes with built in nostalgia and hides your mess from company. For more ideas on decorating with vintage lockers, check out my blog, sfgirlbybay.
