It was so important to me to be able to stay at home with my children while they were growing up. I looked for every single way to make money so I could stay at home with them and try to buy the little extras that we needed to pay for easter dresses, birthday presents, christmas presents, etc. I would care for my friend's children to help stretch our dollar. The only thing about caring for children in my home was that they damaged things in my home that it made it impossible for me to make much money by the time I had to replace what they broke. I had to abandon that way of making money. I then would substitute teach which didn't help that much earning money and it defeated my purpose of staying home with my children. I was very sad that I had to leave my home and it was difficult finding someone to keep my children after school which made my children sad because they couldn't go home and had to stay with strangers. I found it very frustrating to constantly try to find something to fulfill my dream of being able to stay at home with my children.
Finally when my children were grown and I had grandchildren, I found Ebay in 1999. My children wanted to stay at home with their children but were unable to and they ran to me to help take care of their children. I had started selling on Ebay and found that I had many things around the house that I could sell and something clicked with me that I could find many things at garage sales and estate sales to sell on Ebay. I started going to garage sales and my first year of shopping at garage sales brought me some very interesting purchases of books. I went to one garage sale where they had hundreds of books. The lady told me I could have all the books for $5.00. Well, I jumped at that purchase. When I bought the books, I just planned on reading them as I love books and read any and all books I could get my hands on. It took me 2 trips of loading up the books in my car. My little car was loaded front to back and to the ceiling and my trunk loaded down also. That $5.00 purchase brought me such joy. It brought a slight problem of finding places to put that many books. I stored them in my garage, in corners in my house. Underneath beds, and filling up closets, etc. I had them there for a year before I thought. Oh my gosh!! I can sell them on Ebay. I finally started selling them and I began to make more money than I ever could at working or babysitting. I never got rich but I did start making enought to buy many of the extras I needed.
I want to say that you can find anything you want to sell on Ebay at garage sales. If you are looking for something to sell, but haven't quite figured out what it is, then just stop and think what it is that you absolutely love. Do you love music, crafts, books, sewing, jewelry, clothing, etc. Whatever it is, it can be found at garage sales or even estate sales. Maybe you are interested in many different things. No matter what, you can start a business on Ebay and be successful at it. Whether you want to be a powerseller or not, doesn't matter. You can make money on Ebay by buying at garage sales. Just take $10, $20 or $50 with you and hit the garage sales running and buy, buy, buy. Now, when you bring it home, find a place to store it. I have one bedroom that is totally devoted to my Ebay business. Even if you don't have a whole room to dovote to your sales, You can have one corner, a closet or even a storage shed. Just go for it!
Now, don't think you are going to get rich. It is very few people who get rich on Ebay but I am thrilled when I make $50 profit. I make much more than that but I never snub my nose at that amount either. If you are only interested in making large amounts of money at first, then you need to find something else to do. Just start and then work up to more money. You have to start someplace and then learn as much as you can as you go. Make mistakes and learn from them. Just jump in and start making money. When I first started, I started slow and it takes time for people to find your store. Don't give up. That is the most important advice I can give you. If you are the kind of person who gets discouraged easily, then don't even get started. This is fun to me because I am always looking for more ways to improve my store. I love it.
I love Ebay because it will allow you to earn money and still go to your child's ball games, school parties, join the PTA, etc. It is there when you have time to work at it. I set goals of listing at least 10 items a day. Some days though, I am unable to do even that but I am not being yelled at by a boss because I didn't reach my quota. There is no stress and I can work in my pajamas, shorts and watch my favorite show while I am working on Ebay. I feel such freedom. I can stop and give my grandkids lots of kisses and play with their toys or video games.
