The Best Travel Gear for 2016

What to Pack?

It's time to stash away that gift with purchase duffle bag you've been carting around for years because it's a new year and the new you deserves some sophisticated new travel gear. Whether you are a jet-setting to five-star luxury resorts or a globetrotting millennial seeing the world, it’s important to invest in the best travel gear available.

Flying the friendly skies

Let’s face it, while en route do your next destination, there are two things the modern day traveler cannot and will not live without. A tablet for passing the time and noise canceling earphones for some uninterrupted peace and quiet.

Noise canceling headphones do not eliminate sound completely, but they do reduce chatter, babies crying and the familiar loud murmur of the airplane’s ventilation system. Sit back and relax as the passengers around you disappear while you binge watch Gilmore Girls for the 23rd time.

Apple iPads

I’m not sure about you, but I know that I can rule my world directly from my Apple iPad. I can access all of my contacts, FaceTime while traveling, view my calendar, check-in on Facebook, publish my Instagrams, check-in to my hotel room, and confirm my flights. While traveling 30,000 feet I catch-up with movies, listen to my favorite playlists or read Andy Cohen’s book (again). So remind me, how did we survive all these years without tablets? Oh, yeah...I don’t know either.

There are two types of people in the world. Those who carry-on and those who don’t. Which category do you fall under?

For those who can’t be bothered with paying the checked baggage fee or waiting patiently at baggage claim, here are some of my favorite TSA approved carry-on bags.

Do I look pretty?

Don’t let the climate change and weather temps wreak havoc on that pretty little face of yours. I mean it! Your face is the one accessory you are going to have for the rest of your life, so go to the extreme to take care of it. That’s why I love this fancy dancy do-dah:

Remove the day-to-day airborne impurities like pollution and dirt from your face with this awesome travel Clarisonic Mia Fit device. It fits in your dopp kit and has a USB charger. GENIUS.

Did someone say, “ROAD TRIP?”

OK, this one is going to throw you off a bit, but stay with me. Road trips are awesome, but crumbs, dirt and pet hair are not. That’s why I love bringing along my cordless Dyson Motorhead handheld on trips. You never know when you’ll need it and it’s nice to go the distance in a clean ride. The 18-hour charge will last the trip.

And a GoPro. That’s right, your DSLR is awesome and your phone can take fantastic shots, but it’s the GoPro Hero 3 that serious travelers depend on. Take it wherever you go (even underwater!) as you capture the most intimate moments of your journey.

Last, but not least...

The Apple watch. With the nifty contraption buckled to your wrist, you can utilize the keyless hotel room entry, access flight reminders and notifications; appreciate the auto time zone adjustment; find your way with Maps which will send subtle vibrations to your wrist when it’s time to turn left or right; keep track of your spending with Apple Pay and calculate your movements with the all-day fitness tracker.

What Not To Bring: Hoverboards

Yes, that’s right, hoverboards are cool, they are awesome, but they are not allowed on planes. So leave them at home.
