At present, there is a combination of misleading advertising, unreliability and fraud affecting these devices. It is essential that you check your new player by filling the memory to at least 90% of its stated capacity when you first receive it. If you find empty, corrupt folders it is likely that you have been a victim of this problem. Some sellers seem to be content to sell players that have been hacked to give the appearance of a larger capacity than they actually have. (Typically 4GB is really 1GB or even 512MB).
The Samsung chipset upon which most of these players are based ONLY supports memory sizes up to 2GB. You have been warned. I will report this to eBay. Let's see whether it can be stamped out.
