Moultrie Game Spy D-55IR Game Camera

This game spy camera could be better than it is.It has everything a wildlife enthusiast needs;mega-pixels,color,infra red,video,long battery life, fast trigger speed.One down-side is no internal memory...a SD card MUST be installed for it to work. The major fault is the SD connector design...correctly installed the SD card seems upside down..any force installing the card wrong and connector pins get bent...only fix is tedious remove/replace connector soldering under a magnifier, carefully! Almost every non-functional one I have checked has bent connector pins.The pins point toward the card being inserted rather than away from.

I bought two of these cameras since I couldn't beat the price and I am very happy I did. I have got some awesome night pictures of the deer in our food plots. The clarity is great. However, it does take some "ghost" photos at time due to branches moving or wind moving the tree. The shutter is very quiet so it does not spook the deer. I have seen this kit sold with the 2GIG memory stick included. But, it is cheaper to just buy the memory stick online yourself. The battery life has been great so far. I would definitely recommend this camera and look forward to buying more of them in the future.

The cost was reasinable, but I have to say that it was hard to aim.
The infrared light (for aiming) was VERY dim even in the dark.
A loner strap to fasten it to a tree would be appreciated, and two straps to secure the unit is better in order to set up and.or to pull out SD card ithout messing up the aim.
The instructions on how to set the timing, shooting intervals, etc., are cumbersome at best.
I'm unable to compare with other similar units because this is the only one I have. I would suggest that Moultrie field test it with regular users before manufacturing.

I purchased this camera not for looking at game or wildlife but to catch a thief in the acted. We have had an unscrupulous individual stealing grave makers off our family grave site of a deceased Marine. I have setup the camera to photograph the thief in the acted. I purchased this camera because of its excellent IR night time photos. So far no thief, but the camera is working outstanding,clear crisp photos and very good night time shots. It was easy to conceal and has worked flawlessly in heavy rain.
