I've grown up with rock'n'roll music, I've tried also hard'n'heavy later...Black Sabbath were one of my favorites "classical" rock band. I was totally charmed with ghost-voice of Ozzy Osbourne and simple but extremely melodical riffs and solos of Tony Iommi!
Also about Ozzy, they were all kind of stories told...part of them true, many just stories...:) After he splited Black Sabbath he started a solo career. His huge success it seems that it was much bigger than of the other 3 members who kept on being as Black Sabbath, what shows that the real genius, "Mozart of heavy metal" was Ozzy, he was the main force in Sabbath.
"Down To Earth" reaffirms Ozzy's geniality. "Gets Me Through" is the essence of Ozzy-style: his black humor combined with childish and devilish-elements...He always liked to provoke...he seems like a big boy who refuses to grow up...:)
After starting the solo career, Ozzy collaborated all the time with good and very good guitarists (see mega hits guitar-solos from "No more tears" or "Get's me through")...Also here we see one of the best guitarists of all the times: Zakk Wylde.
Ozzy understood from the very begining the formula of success in heavy-metal: a good VOCALIST, and a good GUITARIST.
With "Down To Earth", Ozzy proves again that is one of the best in heavy-metal, like he was from the very begining of his life-artist.
"I'm not the kind of person you think I am
I'm not the anti-christ or the iron man..
I try to entertain you the best I can"
lyrics like these are just an artistic statement of a musician-artist...He never was such a "bad boy" as some wanted to believe, he was only an... entertainer...
