I bought this product to use for an independent movie I wanted to make. I did a lot of research and found that the HV40 was going to fit best within my budget and needs. It came through for me. Still using this but so far, everything I wanted was within this camera, and more importantly (for an amateur such as myself) what needed to be achieved was done so with ease. I don't know why they discontinued this series of camcorders because it was a great camcorder. The only thing I was a bit shocked with is that it doesn't record in 1080p, only 1080i and 720p although it boasts true HD 24p fps. Again, for an amateur it did not take anything away from what I wanted it for, but I spent a lot of time trying to find out how to get that setting until I found a forum that helped me out. Would I recommend this though, definitely. No better camcorder for amateurs. On a small budget? Try to at least save for this camcorder if you can find it. Worth the money.

Amazing quality considering the price

Great quality, it is surprising how great the quality is considering the size of the camera. Getting a firewire 800 port on my pc to be able to upload the video footage is a headache though.
