| The PowerShot A430 is a cost-effective camera that features advanced Charge Coupled Device (CCD) and zoom setting.This camera is equipped with an approximately 4.0-million camera effective pixel Charge Coupled Device (CCD), and with DIGIC II; higher resolution and high-speed processing were achieved. This camera is equipped with the 4x optical zoom lens, which covers a 35mm film equivalent focal length ranging from 39 mm (Wide Angle) to 156 mm (Telephoto) and f/2.8 (Wide Angle) - f/5.8 (Telephoto) aperture.Super Macro in the "Manual" mode allows you to shoot a subject when the distance from the front of the lens to the subject is in the range of 1 to 5 cm (0.39 to 2.0 in.) when shooting. By revising the operability of the previous My Colors mode, Color Accent mode and Color Swap mode that transform colors when shooting have been added to the shooting mode. The "My Colors" and "Photo Effect" modes have been combined into the new "My Colors" in the FUNC. menu and are used to change the look and feel of the pictures when shooting.The recording pixels now include a "Widescreen" feature that has the same aspect ratio as 16:9 widescreen TVs for shooting wide images. Also, this camera can take QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) movies at 30 frames per second.This camera is equipped with an upgraded 1.8-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), ISO 400 setting, Intelligent Orientation Sensor, 9-point AiAF system, microphone, speaker, A/V OUT (Audio/Video output) Terminal and My Camera Settings.This camera is equipped with a "Print/Share" button. ) This is my second A430! I like this camera so much I bought another one while it was still available.
Pros: Macro and close-up functions are easy to access
"Pets and Kids" setting is good for pics from a moving vehicle
Uses AA batteries, either rechargeable (cheap) or alkaline (convenient)
Cons: No forced flash
When you turn the flash OFF, it resets to ON if the camera 'goes to sleep'; this wastes the battery if the flash is not needed/desired

Also the LCD could be bigger, but that would mean a larger camera and its size is one of its benefits so not listing as a CON only a FYI.

) This Camera is a quality unit. I particularly like the fact that it functions on a couple AA batteries and a fresh pair can be easily carried along for backup so you are never stuck. It is a compact camera and has multiple functions plus it produces fine photos. It can be as simple or as in depth as you'd like it to be. I would not hesitate giving a friend a recommendation. It would make a very nice gift.
machine is working but very old looking, overall good!

After waiting 25 days to reach the to CANADA I received a quite securely packed machine!
The item was a bit different than what I saw in the pictures of the description. All over the surface was worn so much and look so old, quite dirty as well. I wish it would have been written in description! To my surprise IT WAS WORKING! what a relief! A little bit slower than my old one(I have the same machine which its lens shutter just broke a month ago after 4 years of usage). A bit heavy and chunky model for being a traveler's machine, but I love this version of Canon, it has a distinct SUPER MACRO MODE (almost 5-6mm to object), custom color selection gives you lot more choices than other automatic versions and has lot of nice other features.
I do hope although its worn and old-look I can use this machine for quite a time!

) I have not had a chance to use this yet but it came in very good shape and was very please with it. But the one thing I didn't like and this was my fault I wanted one with more mega pixels.
