Big fan for many years of Hearts of Space on Natl Public Radio. Maybe these were non-digitally mastered, and this CD is AAD, not sure. Only can say that it sounds like listening to a slightly scratchy record, or an old cassette tape with Dolby NR turned off: hissing, scratchy and pops can be heard. Possible some of these late seventies early eighties tracks were recorded live, sounds like rustling in the background reminiscent of live records. First track is good, rest appears like the same quality of the CD's sold in supermarkets in the eighties: Best of Beethoven, etc...recording sound quality was poor, music itself would have been good if recorded better. These tracks may have been dug out of old archives, but I will still buy another Hearts of Space best of CD, maybe a more recent Volume more current to the nineties, just to see if there was a marked improvement in sound quality. This music I appreciated for many years, was disappointed with Volume 1, hoping other volumes will be much better.
These are classic artists, and the tracks do reflect the best of this genre. Truly inspirational, and did as the CD jewel case insert said, they were the benchmark for several other genres to take key components and expand on them further. This genre did cross-pollinate several genres, especially making music more impactful !
