A cowardly shut-in named Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is forced to join up with a seasoned zombie-slayer named Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse. As Tallahassee sets out on a mission to find the last Twinkie on Earth, the duo meets up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), two young girls who have resorted to some rather unorthodox methods to survive amidst the chaos. Reluctant partners in the battle against the undead, all four soon begin to wonder if it might be better to simply take their chances alone.

Editorial reviews

“ZOMBIELAND has its tongue planted firmly in its rancid cheek while still delivering the visceral goodies.”
Hollywood Reporter - Michael Rechtshaffen (09/25/2009)

“Eisenberg’s often inspired neurotic dithering recalls the likes of early Gene Wilder, while Harrelson again proves himself an actor willing to go out on any limb...”
Variety - Dennis Harvey (09/27/2009)

"This road movie/horror flick/dark comedy/earnest romance/action film hybrid laces a gentle drollness through all the bloody mayhem....Mostly, it's just wicked fun."
USA Today - Claudia Puig (10/02/2009)

4.5 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t is very funny, reaching comic perfection when Bill Murray pops up to play himself in a truly inspired cameo."
Box Office - Pam Grady (09/30/2009)

Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (10/02/2009)

Los Angeles Times - Michael Ordona (10/02/2009)

"[I]t focuses on the comic possibilities of four misfits indulging their most cherished fantasies under the bleakest circumstances imaginable....The filmmakers get a lot of mileage out of Harrelson's amusingly over-the-top means of dispatching the undead..." -- Grade: B+

Zombieland - Better Than A Golden Twinkie

Review For: Zombieland (Blu-ray Disc, 2010)

This is by far one of the best zombie films ever. I strongly suggest owning this movie, or at least seeing it because it ranks right up with some of the best in this genre. Similar to Shawn of the Dead, Zombieland demonstrates great comedy, drama, suspense, and action when needed. Fueled by a great cast which adds to the excitement. Also a cameo role too spectacular to name here, but his initials are BM.

Lets all go kill some Zombies

Woody Harrelson (Cheers) stars in this hilarious look at zombies.

Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) joins up with Tallahassee (Harrelson) after the end of the world where everyone turns to zombies. The two team up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) to find the last Twinkie on Earth in Zombieland.

With much infighting between the stars they are forced to decide if they should remain as a team or split up and take their chances alone.

This movie is at times very funny and continues a line of making fun of zombies like we saw in Shawn of the Dead.

Its a very good movie that anyone who likes to laugh will enjoy.

There is a lot of blood and gore in this film and those who do not like that should avoid the movie.

Buy this one, or rent it depending on your budget. But it is a good addition to any collection.

Not as Funny as "Shaun of the Dead" but Still Solid

Review For: Zombieland (Blu-ray Disc, 2010)

When "Zombieland" first came out, its producers had to know that it would draw inevitable comparisons to British rom-com-zom masterpiece "Shaun of the Dead" -- and for good reason. Both films take the traditional zombie horror genre and inject a healthy bit of absurdist comedy. While "Shaun of the Dead" is clearly the better film, "Zombieland" stands as a solid horror-comedy.

When hypochondriac Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) finds he is one of the last survivors of the zombie apocalypse, he sets out on a cross-country road trip looking for other humans. Along the way, he meets up with Twinkie-obsessed Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and sister-duo Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin.

"Zombieland" was originally written as a TV pilot, and this shows in the film's execution. Gags that should have been used more often for their comedic value (e.g. the "Zombie Kill of the Week") instead only show up once, whereas Columbus' ongoing list of "rules" to survive permeates the whole film.

In all, "Zombieland" is a fun ride for those looking for more laughs than gore in a zombie flick.

Five Stars!

This is a great movie! It succeeds as a comedy, a zombie film, and a heartwarming tale of four misfits who form a family. The zombie violence is bloody, but won't have you reaching for a barf bag (in other words, no scenes of eating intestines or other over-the-top gore.) Woody Harrelson is brilliant as an obsessed zombie hunter; we've seen him in similar roles, but this time we also get to see his vulnerable side, and we learn exactly why he's brave to the point of crazy recklessness when facing the apocalypse. Jesse Eisenberg is perfect as a timid nerd turned reluctant hero, and Abigail Breslin is, as always, one of the most talented young actors to grace the silver screen. Best line: Nut up or shut up. Scariest image: zombie clown.

Zombieland (DVD, 2010)

Zombieland (DVD, 2010]The horror comedy Zombieland focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss -- but when you're afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying' bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.
