When I had one of these, it worked well, even with Windows and Mac OSes. However, the shipping software I was using at the time (Stamps.com) did not work with Macs, and the other shipping software program that does work Macs, Endicia, did not have drivers to support this model. Having converted over to exclusively Mac use, it became surplus. Otherwise, despite whatever difference(s) there might be between this model and the one "without the stripes," it is a good value product for its purpose. For a Windows user, requiring a small desktop footprint and relatively low cost and minimal maintenance, it is a great little printer. Drivers and support are readily available online and from the manufacturer.
Printers should be easy, but they can often be complicated. Specialty printers such as label printers can be a nightmare, with proprietary printer drivers, high cost & difficult to find proprietary ink or toner, etc. The Zebra LP 2844 is as easy as a printer should be. It's ubiquitous, and most operating systems already have the driver for it, making this a plug-and-go printer for USB on Windows, Mac and (my choice) Linux. And there are no difficult to locate consumables. The Zebra LP 2844 prints on thermal labels that are sourced by numerous companies and readily available on eBay. There is no toner or ink. The 4"X6" thermal labels are a bit over a penny a piece (remember, there is no cost for ink or toner) which is a real bargain, and MUCH better than laser printing labels, cropping them, and taping them onto the boxes. It's just peel and stick! And the LP 2844 prints on a wide variety of labels, from tiny, all the way up to 4" wide, so it's very useful for all sorts of black and white label printing. Finally, this is a rock solid printer. It's built like a little tank. It's clearly designed for continuous 24/7 printing in a shipping warehouse. The desk in your office will be like a vacation for this hard working little printer.
Great price. Good condition. Printers are working well - fast, consistent, no ink. Be sure you have thermal labels. We're using them for registration. Seller communicated well too.
I was having trouble with getting the printer to work with my POS system. He worked with me on the phone for an hour trying to get it to work. Once we figured out that the printer model wasn't the right one (my fault), he sent the correct one out the next day and was able to get it to work within a couple of days. Great customer service and will use the me again.
