This is a quite good DVD of Yes, compared to many crappy productions one can find from the band's haydays. You will find a fairly diversified selection of classics Yes numbers. Some of us may miss Close to the Edge but you'll get a quite dynamic South side of the Sky and Awaken, as a replacement. CTTE is largely present on many other DVDs, by the way.
There are some flaws in the interpretations, particularly froms Steve Howe who maybe have sufferred from a poor monitoring feed, which translates into some loose timing/loss of tightness, here and there. Mix quality is good but the focus is clerly on Howe, Wakeman and Anderson, leaving drums and bass somewhat too far behind. One other point is that there was almost no camera looking at Chris Squire, during all the show.
Obviously, this is a trimmed performance of Yes... and they are quite relax (Anderson is dancing and talking with some lady during the Roundabout solos section...), and they show their age BUT this cas only tell you how great these performers were in the 70's. I saw them three times during this period (among others like ELP, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf Generator etc) and, to me, they remain the most influencal collection of composers alive ! I plan to see them in Quebec city, this summer... and I will TRY to educate my family to the music of these pure geniuses.
All in all, they are one of the reason I made a living out of composing and producing music myself ! Go buy it !
This is one of those rare concert videos where the camera stays on the key players of each piece. This must have been filmed by the folks at the Montreux festival. So often a great guitar or keyboard solo is being played and the camera has wandered off somewhere and is showing an audience member or the singers moody looking expression.
The other thing I don't like about many other concert videos is that the producer doesn't seem to think the band is very interesting so there are a lot of quick cuts and fades and special effects that become very annoying. Not here: For this show you are able to sit back and enjoy this fantastic band and feel as if you may be sitting there watching - the camera moves from main point to main point just as one would if you were seeing it live.
This is money well spent for Yes fans.
If your a fan you will enjoy the excellent sound quality you get from a Blu-ray disc. This is a small stage setting not the mega concert Yes would have staged in their heyday. Very enjoyable.
DVD was in great condition and this is a great Concert! Already watched it a few times and still love it. Yes has been a very talented band for years and this may be one the best DVD performances I have seen.
