If you are an extreme Yes fan, this is the concert to enjoy over and over again. This is our first choice to feed the DVD player...and we have quite a few Yes discs in our library. Each artist played and performed flawlessly in this one, not to mention the production of this video is awesome! Sound quality, video quality, lighting, stage production, and with a phenominal symphony backing the worlds best progressive rock band...what more could you ask for??? Heaven??? This is it, captured live in Amsterdam. The feel comes right through the screen when you witness these youngsters in the orchestra really digging the music that they are participating in. For certain, most of them were not even born when Yes made their debut in 1969. But the sheer impact of the music is flowing through their veins during this concert. And to finally put their stamp of approval on the beat of Roundabout by entering the stage with Yes and dancing to the performance...well, you will see and feel their excitement! If I would have had the opportunity to be in the audience for this one, it would certainly have been "A Good Day". I would have felt like a "Starship Trooper". And I would have "Seen All Good People". My spirits would have had super "Magnification". I would have been "In the Presence Of". Okay, enough...just get this one before it gets away! Guaranteed enjoyment.
The video on the DVD is definitely NOT HD, or even very good standard definition, but is adequate eye-candy to go along with the music. The DTS audio is very good, engaging, and complete. This is "mature" Yes at their best... without Wakeman. As a 4-decade Yes fan, these guys are like old friends, telling familiar but endearing stories, with occasional new twists, and clearly having a lot of fun doing it. The orchestra is not overpowering, but complimentary, with subtle arrangements and lots of youthful enthusiasm (they are all probably half the age of the band members). They become the cheering section behind the band on several songs, swinging and swaying, and dancing on stage during the encores. Delightful!
The CD audio is good quality, but the set is much abbreviated, completely missing some significant tracks from the DVD. If video doesn't matter to you and you want to get this into iTunes, get the 2CD set instead. If you prefer DTS 5.1, then this version is the one for you.
BTW, I've been told to watch out for unlicensed copies of this material. This "green cover" version seems to be legitemate.
This DVD sounded great. If you like Yes, this is probably their best concert footage. The backup orchestra consisted of a bunch of young adults and they sounded excellent, and they were into it too. I would recommend this DVD
a freind of mine let me borrow this dvd. on a snowy night, snuggled in for what I thought was going to be your average music disc.
then the orchestra kicked in, and wow! to hear all of the riffs that wakeman did by himself backed with strings, unbelievable. I highly recommend this dvd package. all the good hits in a way you will never hear them this way again.
The show is great, but the image that dvd is horrible, and the sound is also horrible, if i know it would be so badly copied would not have purchased...
