This sequel to the popular Wii Sports makes use of the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which gives players the most responsive and realistic experience possible. The Wii MotionPlus accessory, which is included with Wii Sports Resort, plugs into the base of the Wii Remote controller and, combined with the accelerometer and sensor bar, provides an experience that gives players an even greater sense of immersion.Just as with Wii Sports, people will love competing against friends and family. As the competition heats up, Wii Sports Resort is as much fun to watch as it is to play. First-time players will find it easy to pick up a Wii Remote and jump into the action. Wii Sports Resort takes place on a tropical island. A wide range of activities will keep players coming back for one more round. Some sample activities include Sword Play, Power Cruising (racing a water scooter) and Disc Dog, which involves accurately tossing a disc to a cute, Mii-like dog. | |

Wii Sports Resort CD has 4 short videos on how to connect the Wii remote to the motion-plus device.....and how to connect the nunchuck, calibrate the motion-plus...etc. You can access these at any time from the main menu.
I LOVED all of the sword games. I got 100% in the knock the person off the platform game and then won the slicing game. The slicing game is hilarious. I won't tell you why...you will see. LOL (it's more fun that way)
Archery was relatively easy...until the wind gets factored in and the distance increases. I suck at Frisbee...but I knew that...the cool thing is Frisbee Golf...which is harder - but not as hard as golf.
Frisbee Dog. He is pretty much an avatar of a real dog. You throw Frisbees for the dog. Yawn.
I suck at the "Power Cruising" on the water. I spent a lot of time going in circles, or the "wrong way." The instructions say to put the remote in my right hand...but then it was doing the opposite of what I was doing..so I switched hands. The canoe activity had a hard time following which side I was paddling on.
Bike riding was cool...hard on the arms (but not nearly as hard as paddling - Oy!)
I can see some serious competition happening...on the bike ride you can drive people off the road.
Table Tennis...is WAY better than on Wii Play. The motion-plus adaptor really shows up here with rotation of the paddle. My score was higher here than in Wii Play. I got 75 on the "returns." Once you play the game it will open up the next level...and you don't even have to do well. :|
I think the match game is too easy.
Golf is almost almost identical to Wii Sports (the one packaged with the console) except now it detects if your swing is straight. Mine wasn't. It is one more thing to be aware of.
Wakeboarding is like water skiing...and I was pretty good at it so I only tried it once.
Basketball. I am too slow...and my accuracy seemed way better than it should be. After a few games I was keeping up but throwing blindly. I still did okay. The "Pickup game" was fun cause you can win points simply by knocking the ball out of an opponents hand...or making one of your players take a ball to the face to block a hoop shot.
Bowling...I didn't notice much of a difference from Wii Sports aside from the background characters being more obvious and detailed.
I think the idea is that you can put a twist on the ball....but I didn't have any pins where I would have needed to do that. Mostly splits and spares.
Being left handed is accommodated in some, but not all games, For example..there are a lot of right turns...many of the games...like golf have courses which curve to the right....the canoeing course goes to the right...hopefully this will correct itself with the higher levels.
There is a cool flying activity.....which I suck at about as much as the "Power Cruising" boat....except that it is more fun to crash in the plane..you will see why... ; )
There is a sky diving game where you try to link with people mid air. Actually when you first play the CD it will open with a sequence of sky diving....but on mine it was my friend's mii in the plane....because it was before the "select players" screen.
I think I played for 3 1/2 hours. Then I got tired.
Upon my initial skydive into Wii Sports Resort, I expected the game wouldn't wow me much. I'd seen it during various stages of its life and played it many times. Now that I had the final product, I expected it would hold little in the way of surprise.
But as I started unlocking games and playing more, I found myself losing track of time. Many of us know that a great game can just suck you in and you can easily lose hours mining it for all of its glorious, fun riches. Wii Sports Resort was no different for me.

Wii Sports Resort trumps its predecessor by adding a staggering amount of new mini-games, most of which have sub-categories. For example, the Swordplay sport features the dueling we've all seen a million times, as well as the weird cut-things-in-half mini-game that we've seen a bit less of, but there's also a third game where I had to battle through waves of opponents until reaching an end boss. It's this kind of variety that kept me coming back and kept things fresh.
It's not all new stuff, though. Golf and bowling return, though I couldn't really tell the difference between the versions found in Resort and the original. I still bowled the same as I ever did and I was just as bad in golf here as I was in the original Wii Sports. So MotionPlus didn't drastically change anything with these two for me.
MotionPlus does play a big part in Resort, however. As one would expect, the majority of games here wouldn't be possible without the little dongle and I was downright surprised at how accurately it measured my movement in some sports. Table Tennis is the best example of this, as my real-life skills translated into the game pretty well. I could put massive spin on the ball, hit lob shots and had no problem translating my real-life actions into what I wanted in-game.
While I did have a lot of fun with it by myself, these sports are designed to be competitive, so throwing down with some friends provided me the greatest joy. And unlike the original game, we weren't confined to playing only a handful of sports, which made for longer, more fulfilling play sessions.
Wii Sports Resort deserves to be in every Wii owner's library, whether you're a hardcore gamer or someone who only occasionally picks up the Wiimote and Nunchuk. It has every sport unlocked out of the box, but for those that want to spend the time, there are plenty of variations to unlock in the long run. Some of the games are tiring (looking at you, Canoeing!), but overall Wuhu Island has plenty to enjoy and is a necessary destination for anyone that enjoyed Wii Sports.
I was introduced to the game a few months ago by my father-in-law and he was totally into the flying game - fly over the island and find these green check-mark circles and hit them, and also popping balloons. The game also required the MotionPLUS accessory (which I thought was just another ploy to be forced to spend cash on Wii accessories - again!). So when he first introduced it to me I wasn't impressed. That was until my son (2 1/2 year old) started playing at nana and pappies house! He loved the flying game also so I borrowed it from them. My wife and I started to play the flying game and we got hooked, very fun and the MotionPLUS makes the game so exact - it is awesome! My son loves to crash the plane into everything - don't worry the pilots always parashoot out to safety... I then started to browse the other games - loved them all, especially the archery shooting and frisbee (dog catching the frisbee and frisbee golf). My wife beats me brutally at the frisbee toss game (seriously the first video game she is good at! I tell her this all the time!) and my son loves to watch the dog catch the disk.
Twelve games total - bowling, frisbee, wakeboarding, sordplay, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, power cruising, canoeing, cycling, and air sports. Something to fit your mood just about any time.
It is a truly family friendly game - most games can host up to 4 remotes. Most games require the MotionPLUS accessory and some require the nunchuck as well.
I bought my game on ebay and was pleasantly surprised to also get a MotionPLUS adapter in my package (it was not advertised as having this! - BONUS!!!).
I did also purchase two additional motionPLUS adapters on ebay for adding family and friends. There are a host of adapters and add-ons available for this game and they only add to the amount of fun you can have with the game.
Is it for everyone? YES - as long as you remember it is a G rated family friendly host of games - all cartoonish graphics and no blood or "real" violence. The downside - having to purchase another motionPLUS, but now I am looking for games that use this adapter because I know the motion commands will be outstanding! On eBay, the accessories and game are very INEXPENSIVE!!!
An excellent game for family-fun-night, to entertain family and friends at gatherings and visits, and easy entertainment for children.
An outstanding game for all ages!!!
Wii sport resort is an interesting game remenisent of its predisesor.
The motion plus adapter makes a noticeable difference, and many of the games allow in game calibration. For example, in the sword fighting game, simply centering your sword and pressing down on the d pad, re centers the remote. And handy feature to have.
The games included are swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling, and air sports.
Although some like cycling seem like your just swinging your arms around for an extended time, several of the games are quite fun and interesting, my personal favorite is the swordplay.
For those familure with the previous wii sport, you'll find the golf and bowling to be a new challenge, but a bit less finiky then the previous version.
My recomendations for this game, is if your going to buy it, be sure to pick up an extra wii motion plus, as the games are much better in two players.
Wii Sports resort has that classic Nintendo feel with some unique twists that make it the perfect party game. From the moment you start the game, the new motion plus technology is front and center. Having you skydive your Mii onto the island is a great way to demonstrate the new Motion Plus features in the game.
As expected, not every one of the mini-games in the collection is going to be your cup of tea, but everyone should find a few that are fun enough to keep you coming back again and again. For the casual gamer looking for a quick fix, this is an ideal title.
Some of the games take better advantage of the controller than others. For instance the archery portion is particularly inspired. You can feel the creaking of the string as it pulls taught and the twang of the bow as you let your arrow fly. Outstanding!
The Jet Ski obstacle course is a lot of fun as well. The golfing module is quite an improvement from the original Sports version and is my next favorite module. I have Tiger Woods 10 which is fantastic, but sometimes you just want to fire up the Wii and smash a few drives.
The island concept is charming and there are some thoughtful touches, for example, there is an option in Sports Resort that automatically imports Mii's posted online to the Check Mii Out channel who can then wander into your game as spectators. It was quite fun to see Mii celebrity spoofs suddenly appear in the audience or towing you from the motorboat in the wakeboard game. What a cool concept!
Most of the events take place on different portions of the island, so the views are constantly changing and give you a real sense of place that helps the immersion factor and ties everything together nicely.
Overall I'd give this title a 9 of 10 and a good value for the money.
Thanks Nintendo!
