The My Book Studio Edition II doesn't support USB 3.0 and internal hard drives made by other vendors. It runs hot, seems buggy at times, and doesn't come with an eSATA cable.

exelent item fast hard drive i am happy with this purchase i need this hard drive for my music i am DJ and i need to move my music to others places and my laptop is limited 80gb vs Western Digital My Book® Studio Edition™ II 2TB im really happy
WD did a perfect job designing this device from every aspect. I set it up RAID 1 (mirrored 1TB) and jacked it in to the USB port of my TimeCapsule. With the Firewire capability additional daisy chaining on from the 800 MB ports gives any NAS drive limitless storage AS YOU NEED IT! WD used Green Drives that aren't meant to be media servers or system discs, otherwise they work flawless--This is the best Mac compatible drive on the market.
Pros-Price point, every port you could ever want--1000gb ethernet, firewire 400, 800 USB2, RAID capable and WD Green Technology Drives. Setup software is a dream, you choose the formating options from your OS, the setup software deals with RAID set up and drive replacement. No funky protocols like Buffalo NAS products
Cons--none what so ever.
The Western Digital My Book was FANTASTIC. There were only a couple of minor things that I found wrong.
The actual drive was great and was SO easy so set up after a couple hic ups with the directions. The hardware is sleak, small, easily hidden under a desk or something and VERY quick.
The first problem I had would be that the directions in the box are lacking. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that EVERY cable that you would need comes with it, but nothing was labeled.
I am a IT person for PC computers ad it was probably good that I had some sort of experience with computers trying to figure out what cable was what. If you truly look hard at the pictures anyone could figure it out after a while but it would help to have the cables labeled already so there is no confusion for the non-experienced.
The software that comes with the hard drive doesn't have an autorun and you have to open up the disk and double click on the different icons. Also, it would be nice to let you know ahead that one of the softwares that you install is a "trial" version for 30 days. No biggy if you are not using it for backup and using it for something like we are doing (video array).
The really nice thing about this is that it sets up in an instant, no formatting needed and its ready to go after you plug two wires in.
I would HIGHLY recommend this to any MAC user wanting huge amount of space and especially to video editors looking for that much needed room to hold all of their projects.
After testing this item I have found that it is actually more reliable and has a quicker response time than an internal hard drive mounted in your computer.
Fisrt I gotta say I Luvvvv This Hard Drive....To Begin i am a college student with a LAptop full of Papers and Assignments. I remeber back in my Sophomore Years my laptop crashed and i had to start everything over....music, papers, photos, top gaming score....;(....But now thanks to the My Book Studio edition...those days are of the Past...Thanks Ebay For getting My life back on Track
I like the fact these drives have the three fastest interfaces of data transfer firewire800, esata, and USB 2.0. I haven't used the RAID feature, but the drives are super fast. I would recommend these to anyone.
