well i am not a very extensive reviwer of products , but my experience with this product has been excellent, i first got a 500gb Western Digital My Book, one year ago,for my house to put it with my laptop, work perfect , extremely easy to use , is just plug and play!!!! no error of any kind so far. i got now this new 1tb because my sister need it for her computer at work , i had try it here for 2 days before i give it to her , but so far no problem , i truly highly recommend this Western Digital My Book to any one that need to increase storage space in their computer , a lot better than getting a hard disc to put inside the computer , due to the fact that this Western Digital My Book you can plug it at any time on any computer , and work all the time perfect. something that i dont like is the software it use to sync the computer with it , because it keep on doing it more often than what i want, and that sync slow my computer , but i resolve it very easy - i just uninstall the software that does that and use the my book with out it and any thing that i need to keep over there i send it manually and voila!!! . some improvement this product should have in the future is the energy, this Western Digital My Book have to be connected to the ac power , "but it have to be like that, so how could you power the hard disc inside it" well i just say this no because i like that fact or not, but as and improvement to the manufacturer, i think will be nice to waive to need of the ac power. Just do not buy in the expensive retailer that you find in the mall or in the commercial building ( this just not to say any expecific name) , here ebay sellers have very very good prices.i recommend Western Digital My Book in top of any other way to improve your space in your computer. thank you
I like that the fact that this Western Digital My Book™ Essential Edition 2.0 (1000 GB) 1 TB USB Hard Drive external hard drive comes with a ac adapter.
The Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 2.0 (1000 GB) 1 TB Hard Drive is very fast and reliable. The main reason I bought it was to backup my computer in case in should crash. Now, I find myself saving everything automatically straight to that hard drive. Computer is running faster and I am happy! The best thing about it is that for a hard drive that size, there was no configuration to be done, just plug and play. My career is in investment and I must say: this was one of the best investments I ever made!
I've been using Western Digital HD's for nearly 15 years now and never yet have had one of them fail on me (though there's always a first time!) I hooked this one up to my newest system. This drive is attractively designed, quite sleek with good ventilation and very easy to set up; the only things you need to do are (1) plug in the power adapter and connect it to a suitable socket and (2) connect the USB cable to the computer; Windows XP and Vista will do the rest of the setup process automatically. (There's a version for Mac.) As others have noted, the drive is formatted FAT at the factory, so you'll need to reformat it if you want to use NTFS - do remember to copy over the tools to another drive first if you want to use them. They're also decently sturdy; I accidentially knocked the first one off my desk not long after I bought it, but it took no damage and is still running smoothly 8 months later. The drive goes to standby automatically when not in use to save power and reduce heat, so it will take a few seconds to get it spun up after a period of inactivity. Also, USB 2.0, though quite speedy, is still slow compared to the internal hard drive's PATA or SATA connections, so keep that in mind when transferring data.
The one issue I feel is missing is a shut off switch. At times I would like it off while the PC is on.
I needed to free up space on my laptop because I had so many pictures stored. The 1TB external hard drive by Western Digital sounded like just what I needed. It was advertised as being easy to install and use. And it was just that. Just plug in the usb cord and the power cord and you're ready to start transferring files. I was amazed at how simple it was. I would recommend it to anyone needing more storage. And the price is great also. It takes up very little room on my work station which is a plus also. I'm very impressed with it and am glad I bought it.
