A moving, intriguing drama about a zombie apocolypse set in/around Atlanta, GA. Some of the acting is not up to par, but others like Jeffrey DeMunn are definitely at the top of their game. The drama overall has some faults but all are forgiven as the story overcomes any actor's shortcomings. The zombies have never looked better. Greg Nicotero does the make-up effects which are A+. A very noble interpretation of the comic. Look for season 2 to be the actual "first" season. Season one seems like a 6 hour preview for the real season coming up in October, 2011. Bottom line, if you're a horror fan, you'll be in love with this series. If you're not a horror fan, you'll find it an engaging series in the caliber of Sons of Anarchy, Madmen, Justified, etc.
I'm a big fan of the show and wanted to review the series before the second season started. I figured I could purchase the DVD set for less on ebay than buying it retail. The set was brand new and just as advertised. The product was shipped promptly and was packaged securely. I really enjoyed the many extras that were included on the DVD's. There's a "Making of Walking Dead" that is very well done and the director and the creator are each interviewed in the documentary. Also, each episode is referenced and has it's own mini-episode on the bonus features. A lot of DVD sets have very few bonuses, I feel that for a series that has only 6 episodes, this set has more than most in that area. I wasn't disappointed and I am really happy with my purchase.
I'm not sure buying the first season without the 2nd was such a good idea. This is so good it's addicting,I've watched the first 2 hrs twice.
I never thought they could make a zombie movie/show that would keep adults/me glued to the tv set.
I think I like it because some thing like this could realy
happen, not with zombies but a threat.I'm sure there would be some thing...some kind of threat that would keep people on edge.
I'm at the market at the check out waiting in line when I decide to walk 20ft away to get a soda from the fridge and a lady scurries along and moves my shopping cart aside so she can slip through and take my spot in line.
I pull into the gas station and realize I've pulled up to far so I put it in reverse and look to my rear and back up only to turn around and find a car is at my bumper so now I can't pull forward a couple feet & I'm a foot away from the gas hose. The lady jumps out and tells me to move it when I was there first.I only wanted to straiten out my car so as not to block others and get gas.Now this lady is causing a fuss.
I say lady because 9/10 times it's a lady. They steel my shopping cart with my personal items in it while I'm in the mens room. They have taken it while I went to a diff isle to get a box of crackers.
With every thing I see on a daily basis it's not hard for me to imagine what could happen should some thing so drastic occur that left only a few million people on earth.
It will be a dog eat dog world....or zombie eat human world.
This series is based on an ongoing comic book series of the same name written by Robert Kirkman. Even though the series doesn't completely follow the comic books, it is awesome to be able to see Frank Darabont's take of a zombie epidemic. As much as I love a good zombie movie, it's nice to find a series that shows more than just blood and gore. This series gives you a whole plot based on the lives of the survivors and how they deal with the world coming to an end, and how they use survival instincts to live from day to day. It really shows you how much we take for granted, like hot water, electricity, air conditioning, etc. This show makes you want to keep watching. Just enough action, with some shock value, and a lot of raw human emotion. Definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it yet!
I had heard all of the great things being said about "The Walking Dead" and wanted to find out for myself what all of the buzz was about. After watching the first season on DVD, I understood and have to agree. This is topnotch storytelling with compelling characters and you will want to watch all of the episodes in one sitting. My wife, who is not a horror buff, was even hooked.
