Review For: The Waite Group's C Primer Plus by Stephen Prata (1998, Paperback)
I have just read couple of hundred pages from the ~1000 page book, but eBay just keeps asking about the review... So!
I find this to be the _very good_ book for learning C++ . Author seems to have broad knowledge in this area and shares it exceptionally neatly. I like how the historical aspects of C++ are presented. I like how the author gives the view on C++ from the "paradigm" angle, differing from most C++ books which just teach the syntax. And last but not the least, the book includes a lot of examples and good/amusing exercises. I can't think of anything in this book that might be better. All in all - an excellent book!

A must have book if you code in C

Created: 09/09/08
This is one of the best programming books I've ever used. It's good for learning C, refreshing your knowledge, or for reference. The examples are concise and to the point. They are a good starting point for experimentation and (so far) all compile safely. It has the clearest explanation of strtok I've ever seen. All the examples in the Turbo C++ version did. The writing is interesting without being silly. The book may be inches thick, but I don't see any wasted space. I like it better than the C Reference Manual by Harbison and Steele, which though also necessary, is much more terse.

Had to buy a copy to refresh my C knowledge after not using it for 10 years. I'd lost the old Waite Group Turbo C++ book I learned C from and needed something to work with. I bought the 3d edition because LabWindowsCVI doesn't support C99. If you need C99 examples, the 5th edition covers that.

A buddy of mine who's been programming in C for 30 years occasionally refers to his copy of the first edition of this book.

The appendices are extremely useful.
