Movie synopsis
In the 1990s, World Championship Wrestling, owned by Ted Turner, battled with the World Wrestling Federation for the pro-wrestling market. Although the two companies went head-to-head for many years, WCW eventually folded. This documentary tells the story of the WCW and offers footage from many of the most beloved grapplers who fought for it, including Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Goldberg. Interviews with behind-the-scenes people like the Crockett brothers make it clear why the once-powerful institution dissolved.

A LOT left out!!!

Review For: WWE - The Rise and Fall of WCW (DVD, 2009, 3-Disc Set)

After watching the DVD a couple more times and letting everything settle, I have changed my
opinion SLIGHTLY. I am still bothered by the fact that so many of WCW's biggest angles like
the nWo split, Starrcade 1997, the almost ECW invasion and so on were just ignored. I am
also still a little upset at how much of the DVD was focused on the NWA. Yes, WCW was
born from the death of NWA (Mid-Atlantic / Jim Corckett Promotions), but the NWA and WCW
were two different companies when you look at it. I believe that the NWA should have had it's
own DVD. But maybe that's just me. It covers a lot of things like the NWA gaining some ground
with guys like Flair, Dusty, Magnum TA and others, Crockett's mismanagment of the company,
Ted Turner buying it, WCW taking over and the "revolving door" of Bookers that included Dusty,
Ole Anderson and Bill Watts and Ted Turner (WCW) buying the company.

From there we go into guys like Sting, Ricky Steamboat and others bringing the new company to
the masses, another "revolving door" until Eric Bischoff took over, Mike Graham giving Bischoff
ideas on how to run the company (which Bischoff takes credit for), signing Hogan and Savage, the
formation of the nWo, how Bischoff stole the idea for the nWo from New Japan Pro Wrestling, the
Cruiserweight division, guys like Jericho, Malenko, Guerrero, Mysterio and all the rest of those guys
bringing in the younger audience, Bischoff taking credit for the Cruiserweights (even though he stole
most of them, and the idea to feature them from ECW), the rise of Goldberg and the undefeated streak
that followed, the feud between DDP and Hogan, Goldberg beating Hogan for the belt on Nitro, the PPV
company cutting Halloween Havoc 1998 off after WCW ignored the time limit resulting in WCW having
to refund MILLIONS of dollars to fans, Nash taking over as the booker and forcing Goldberg to drop the
belt to him at Starrcade. Bischoff is gone, politics get exposed with that and then Hogan coming back
and beating Nash with the infamous "finger push", Vince Russo coming in, David Arquette winning the
World Heavyweight Championship and so much more. This DVD really brings you in and lets you see
first hand all of the horrible politics that made WCW one of the infamously worst places to work. The
DVD has 20 full matches from NWA all the way up to the later WCW years and bonus features.

All of these are told by Jim and David Crockett, Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, Ric Flair, Arn Anderson,
Barry Windham, Bill Watts, Hulk Hogan, Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko,
Rey Mysterio, Eric Bischoff, Kevin Sullivan, Ron Simmons, Big Show, Mike Graham, Scott Hall & more.

A brilliant legacy of a wrestling legend!

Review For: WWE - The Rise and Fall of WCW (DVD, 2009, 3-Disc Set)

During the mid to late 90s, the WWF and WCW were in constant rivalry with one another, specifically on Monday evenings with the infamous "Monday Night War" that pitted WWF's Monday Night Raw against WCW's Monday Nitro. All that changed in March 2001 when WWE purchased its main rival, and WCW was out of the picture. But, their legacy lives on in this 3-disc DVD release from WWE Home Video. Included here are 15 years worth of classic in-ring action featuring many of wrestling's top competitors such as Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Lex Luger, Sting, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat, The Steiner Brothers, Vader, Rick Rude, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Chris Jericho, Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero and Hulk Hogan - many of whom would also become well-known within the WWE, as well. There is also a specially-created documentary about this company that tells about its early origins all the way to the end of the road in March 2001. Among the bonus features here are "Lost In Cleveland", "Bill Watts Defends Himself", "Spam Man", "The Origin Of Goldberg" and "Eric Bischoff Gives Away RAW Results". During the heated rivalry between the two companies, WCW was definitely winning the ratings war, especially with the addition of the nWo, a major heel faction that went on to become one of the most recognized stables in the business. Altogether, this makes for a very entertaining and memorable wrestling DVD release that, no doubt, many fans should enjoy a lot.

Very Good,Needed to Cover More

Review For: WWE - The Rise and Fall of WCW (DVD, 2009, 3-Disc Set)

I loved NWA/WCW.So when it was sold to Vince Mcmahon, wrestling went down hill in my opinion. Now don't get me wrong,I liked the WWF/WWE also.WCW was just the better alternative. So when I heard that the WWE was going to release this DVD set,I was sceptical. It was not the gloat fest I thought it would be.It covered the beginning from the Crocket owned NWA faction to the end of WCW very nicely. The history of WCW is to rich to cover in just one disc.It was great to see alot of the old NWA/WCW stars,I really miss that era of wrestling. My only problem was they did not mention Sting very often, probably because at the time he is working for TNA wrestling.Sting was one of the biggest stars in WCW at its peak.To just gloss over his part in the company is just totally wrong,no matter if he's working for a competing company.I think the WWE now realizes that killing off WCW was a mistake. They need the competition. The WCW/WWE war was the greatest thing to happen to wrestling.Vince missed a golden opportunity to keep this going for years after purchasing them.He stated in the story that when he bought WCW,he did not feel a ego rush, that it was just another day.I say that's a bunch of B.S. Still,as I stated earlier, they did a very good job of telling the history,it was just to condensed and short.Disc 2 and 3 have some great matches, that will take you back to a better time in wrestling. If you liked WCW,pick this up.It's worth a watch to get acquainted again with a great wrestling company gone by.

Must have for all wrestling fans. Great DVD going behind the scenes in detail of how WCW destroyed itself. Shows a lot of different prespectives from wrestlers, referees, announcer's on how a lot of things could have been done to save the company. Classic interviews and matches included.
