I based my purchase of this unit on many reviews of sub $100 Sound bars. Many of them do not have an optical (digital) S/PDIF Toslink input. Can't wait to see what it sounds like with that hooked up! Right out of the box though, with just the provided analog RCA cables, this unit sounds fantastic! Although this unit can be outfitted with a separate sub-woofer. The "stock" unit, has some full, rich bass. Great highs, mids and lows on this unit. The first thing that got me about this unit was the weight. It was heavier than comparable units, indicating good speakers. The SRS surround sound or "fake surround" I call it, actually does a bang-up job of fooling your ears into hearing decent surround. I was actually considering a Coby 3D sound bar before this one. Mainly because their "fake surround" technology, made by some Swiss company, sounded very intriguing. After reading some written reviews and one video review on Youtube however, I became convinced that Coby failed to deliver/exploit this technology fully, by using cheap parts. Typical of Coby. This sound bar would probably fair well, pitted against the slightly higher priced Philips sound bar with sub, or even a Sony or other high end unit. It reminds me of the Bose Waveguide system commercial on T.V. "Rich, room filling sound" this unit seems to do just that! Very rich and clear for the dialog (talking/voices) which I was unsure of with these sound bars, considering they have no separate volume for the center speaker (dialog) that "true" 7.1 Surround systems have. Granted, it's not a 7.1 system, but does an excellent job for what it is, and for the price! No 7.1 headaches either like wires and speakers everywhere. Easy, 5 min. setup and you're off to the races. Good value to money ratio! Great for apartment dwellers or rooms. It blows away your T.V. speakers, no doubt there! The remote seems to be an issue in other reviews and would agree. It feels cheap and flimsy. Very light and small, but not great. Has to be pointed directly at the unit to respond. This small shortcoming though, is not worth passing up such a fantastic sounding bar though. Even with the surround off, this unit sounds great. That is rare with sound bars. Many of them sound "tinny" or "hollow" when the surround option is turned off. Not the case with this one. Still produces deep bass and full sound.
The speakers that i purchased were remanufactured. So i was somewhat leary of my first purchase. I bought them as an add on to my flat panel tv. The sound quality of the tv was less than desired but with the sound bar it sounds great. We upgraded from an old tube type set to a flat panel and added high def to our provider. After such a vast improvement over what we had we renewed to main set in our living room. I bought the second speaker at that time and have been well satisfied with both. As far as appearence they look great and have functioned beautifully. Yes i would reccomend
Sound bars fill an important niche for those who don't have the room or desire for a larger surround sound system to augment their HDTV sound. Flat panel TV sound can be abysmal, and at best mediocre especially in the smaller and ultra-thin sets. A sound bar is a good option and can be mounted under the TV minimizing the space it takes up.
The Vizio VSB200 is a decent sound bar. It lacks the audio clarity of some of the more expensive units but it is far better than the built-in speakers in my 32" flat panel. For the price it is pretty good. One strong aspect is the number of inputs. It has a SPDIF optical input and a pair of analog inputs. Some of the more expensive units lack sufficient inputs as you are likely to have a DVD/Blu-Ray player and a cable box. Fiddling with the tone controls on your TV will help.
Depending on the price you pay this can be a good value as sound bars can be very expensive. Don't spend more than $100, they can be had for less.
I bought this as an affordable way to get better audio with my newly purchased 47" Vizio TV. I love it's quality and simplicity to hook up. Just plug in power cord and plug in either standard RCA audio cable or better S/PDIF audio cable. Turn on power and you have great sound. I also used it's output jack to run to my subwoofer although not required. I have not compared to other sound bars. Only things I dislike are that the remote is a little cheap and I haven't figured out how to raise my tv so that this sound bar doesn't black the tv remote control. Both of these are minor so I would definitely buy again and suggest it to others.
Just as others have described, sounds great, not terribly bassy, but better than the TV speakers, very easy set up. BUT.... The remote sensor is set too far back into the speaker and is hard to get it to react to the remote. If you remove the cover and then either cut the frame around the sensor, or pull off the sensor and reglue it further out it picks up the remote signals just fine. Nice size and looks great, find a good price and it's well worth it. Vizio audio remote code lets you set other generic remotes to control this as well.
