I read the reviews, compared the price to new at the local discount club and bought the TV.
Two MAJOR Issues exist.
1) After going through the initial setup I got down to trying to use and watch this TV. They should not have sent this particular unit out. I know why it was returned and "refurbished." The picture display is so dark you can't watch it. I tried every user adjustable video adjustment the TV offered (and I'm competent with AV products). At the time I'm typing this I have this set and my other flat screen of same size and type but different manufacture playing side by side with the exact same input feed signal. My existing set is solidly 60% brighter. If the quality control of refurbishing these products is "it turns on and functions" as their only criterion for passing product testing, they need to be avoided. There is another review which also mentions dark picture quality.
2) I use off-air feed with a quality antenna through a quality decoder box which I use because even though the set is digitally ready to go, the decoder box pulls in many more digital sub-channels than the set standing alone. The decoder offers RCA output (the red, white, yellow cable for TV and audio) which is superior picture to RF cable however this set will NOT scan any antenna signal except the standard, screw-on RF cable input. This appears to automatically drop the signal to 480 resolution as the focus of the picture is horrible.
I hooked my blu-ray player to the HDMI slot and it works with better focus but the overall picture display is still the same, too dark to watch picture.
As insult to injury, the remote has to be pointed DIRECTLY at the receiver on the set or it won't work. Not general direction, not close but exactly which is a pain.
I'm boxing this up for shipping return now and I'm going to be out the hefty shipping charge to return it.
The features of the TV and even though you can only hook antenna leads to the RF input, the wide assortment of connections is a plus.
The picture quality is poor for the standard of the TV.
Remote has to point RIGHT at the set.
Picture quality is amazing. Frame style is nice. Has enough interfaces to plug all your favorite video devices in. Internet apps are bit behind the times but are still pretty cool. Also if the Television is left connected to the internet constantly, the firmware will update almost every day causing the TV to shut off for a minute, with the Vizio logo flashing white and orange. This is very annoying and from reading forums on the internet, it is causing people to kill their TV's by attempting to turn it back on while it is in this state, by unplugging and plugging it back in which interrupts the firmware update process and could render the Television useless. The manual does not specify this, so most people think there is something wrong. If Vizio would tell there customers this, there would be less casualty's. As long as you are aware of this, the Television is a great addition to anybody's home. The video quality is excellent and the surround sound isn't too bad for coming from a Television. The User interface is easy to use and has many adjusting options. The HDMI input supports many resolutions, including Low resolutions which many Televisions do not. This is perfect for use as a PC monitor across the HDMI, to view the Bios menu and POST start-up screen, which are viewed on very low resolutions. Other Televisions will show as "Unsupported Mode" when PC is in a low resolution. All and all I give this Television a 7.8 out of 10. Hope my review was helpful.
The TV its self is used so, its not as bright or strong of a picture as I would expect from a new one. However; it is a real nice picture. I love the apps! They work great. You can have profiles on the TV so UID/PSW can be saved under each profile. I wish the remote was a actual key board like the 42" & up TV's are. You have to scroll to the letters. So, if your just viewing things & not looking to respond or reply, this works great. I have a yamaha sound bar so I can really enjoy pandora. You will really enjoy the TV. I rate it a 4 star cos of the remote. Vizio should of made better efforts to have a keyboard remote for any tv which has internet apps.
When I bought this TV, I didn't know what an internet TV was. I bought it as a display for my tired old eyes to see the computer screen up from the 13" display on my laptop. At first I was a little dissappointed the thing would not connect via an VGA cable. Then upon investigation an HDMI cable would do a better job. Between finding out the VGA cable didn't do and purchasing the new HDMI cable, I discovered it is WIFI capable. Uh oh, time to get out the instruction manual. Hey! it has widgets. Apps! little programs like you have on your smart phone that connect you to specific websites like NetFlix and Twitter. In no time I was watching movies I choose and when I want for just 6 bucks a month on Netflix and listening to internet radio while I blog on my computer. Awesome, awesome, awesome. It has a great display at 1080p and functions perfectly with my macbook pro as a monitor. Very few wires to connect thanks to the wifi, I don't even need a cable connection. I spent much less for this TV than they were going for in the stores so I have been so pleased with this product and it has vastly overmet my expectations. I'm actually considering buying a second one for a double computer display.
I cannot say enough about my unit. It arrived less than a week after I ordered it. The stand still had the factory plastic covering it and the user manual was in a plastic bag. There was not a mark or fingerprint on any of it. I plugged it in and started using the remote right away and next thing I knew I was on the internet with gorgeous color and amazingly user friendly menus. With all kinds of ports and methods for hooking up devices I cannot fault this TV in any manner. The built in speakers sound fine although I run sound through my stereo.
