|Made with 14 elements in 12 groups, the Vivitar 13 mm lens has been carefully crafted and designed to provide clear, sharp imaging. This 13 mm f/2.8 lens has a 13 mm focal length and f/2.8 aperture that creates stunningly vivid photographs from a variety of distances. This wide-angle lens been designed specifically to work with Minolta and Sony model cameras, but this Vivitar camera lens will fit onto many different cameras. The Vivitar 13 mm lens can be held in one hand, and it weighs just 15 oz, but it makes a big difference in every picture it captures. The unique clarity and light control is achieved through the two ED lens elements used to craft the Vivitar 13 mm lens. This 13 mm f/2.8 lens even eliminates distortions and chromatic aberrations which makes all pictures come out clear and precise every single time, even in outdoor conditions that can't be carefully regulated by the photographer. Even at the corners and around the edges, the Vivitar camera lens produces sharp, dazzling images that are perfect everywhere. A built-in petal hood and the multi-layered coating also work to eliminate "ghost" images, those reflected and secondary images that can destroy even the best of photographs. Wide-angle photographs can be easily ruined by lens flare, distortion, and other problems that can ruin that epic shot.|

Reasonably Sharp (even wide open)
Plastic-feeling built-in hood
The Vivitar 13mm F2.8 Ultra Wide Angle Lens is resonably sharp. The lens is constructed of 14 elements in 12 groups, and features 2 ED lens element; one hybrid and one glass. These combine to minimize distortion and chromatic aberrations, and produce pictures that are somehow clear but not as sharp as I expected.
The lens provides an ultra-wide angle field of view on both full frame and crop sensor cameras. Achieve very nice perspectives and framings with 115.7° angle of view on full-frame cameras, and 93.9° on crop sensors. The built in petal hood and multi-layered coating do not prevent some flare and ghosting.
Short focal lengths have a unique way of slightly distorting what you’re photographing – sometimes creating dynamic effects. Another benefit of an ultra wide angle is the extensive depth of field. Especially in bright light, people and objects in the picture will be sharp from very close right out to infinity.
The reviews on this are that it is a little soft wide open but other apertures are excellent. My copy is a little worse. It's very soft (almost cloudy) at f2.8 & f4, then barely acceptable at f5.6 but flat out breathtaking at f/8. I probably have a bad copy but then again I didn't buy this one for its wide open performance! Another problem with this lens has complex 'mustache' distortion so it is hard to correct. Finally the distance gauge is a little inaccurate, no big deal. If it sounds like I'm giving this one a poor overall grade, think again. For the price, provided you set this one at at least f5.6, you'll get excellent results, competitive with upper echelon $,$$$ lenses. The color is superb and does not flare that much. Samyang makes another winner!
