This book is awesome! For Beginners to advanced cooks.....the recipes are easy to understand and create and delicious!
Be sure to read the first few chapters if you are new to the Vegan World, as it will help guide you through the process of materials and what you will need to stock your pantry with. Some items may take a few trips to different supermarkets to find, but once you have stocked up on items, you will be good to go!
Isa and Terry focus on just about every type of dish type there is.....from quick fix meals to more detailed casserole dinners. What I love about this book is how they talk about certain types of foods that are not common to most American recipes.....like Yuca Root and Tapioca Flour. They also have several Shows on their website (Post Punk Kitchen) http://www.theppk.com/shows/ where you can see how they create some of their favorite Vegan dishes like Sushi, Chocolate Cupcakes and Sweet Potato Crepes.
My favorite recipes from this book are:
Grilled Yuca Tortillas
Nori Sushi
One that wasnt in this book but should be tried is their Pumpkin Pie Brownies! Warning though.......they wont last thru the night.....they mysteriously disappear!
It's one of the best vegan cookbooks out there and i'd recommend it to anyone who's looking to add some kick to thier vegan food. Like all recipe books, some recipes are better than others, but in Veganomicon there are so many to choose from it's kind of impossible not to find a few that you'll love. AND it's full of ideas, suggestions, and some helpful hints (which comes in handy if you're not to familiar with making Tempeh, or working with Wheat Gluten, etc). The Chick Pea Cutlets are amazing! If you're interested in picking up Veganomicon, check our Moskowitzz's other book Appetite For Reduction (a low fat, reduced calorie, vegan cookbook). I have them both, and they rule.
I loved the post punk kitchen, so of course I had to get Isa's & Terry's books. They are the best! Imagine a book that not only gives you the recipes, but helps you getting started with stocking your pantry, what tooks to have, and also includes some humour! Sounds great huh? Then throw in recipes that are ACTUALLY AWESOME! I live by this book, and by their other vegan cook books. Without them I would be lost!
This book is filled with tasty recipes that appeal to both vegans and omnivores. My husband has enjoyed several of the dishes, and he was hesitant to eat a meal that didn't consist of meat and potatoes. In addition to lots of yummy recipes, the authors also explain some basic techniques for roasting and grilling different types of vegetables, which is very helpful to someone who may not have experience with veggies like leeks or fennel. They also cover different cooking methods for grains like barley and quinoa and provide the reader with a list of foods to always keep on hand for delicious vegan meals. Through the recipes in the book, the authors show that veganism doesn't have to mean bland, flavorless beans or veggies.
Our vegan daughter has moved in with us for a short time before moving to the west coast. We are meat eaters so I was looking for a cookbook that would meet all of our needs-I found it in Veganomicon. We have all been happy with the recipes I have used to date. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a vegan cookbook.
