Vampire's Kiss is a comedy, and in no way is it supposed to be confussed with serious vampire movies. It parodies horror films and satirizes life in the big city, much like American Psycho. Vampire's Kiss is much better than American Psycho because instead of trying to be creepy and ultimately failing, Vampire's Kiss is hilarious. I gave it two-thumbs up! ~5 STARS *****. I'm certain that I'll be seeing it over and over again. Fans of absurd, inane, dark, wry humor will enjoy watching for subtlety and detail
It saddens me to rate this so low for a couple reasons. I really like Nicolas Cage. I think he is a great actor (in everything else I have seen him in, he wasn't so good in this). I also really like vampire movies. This movie is just strange and confusing. I dont think I even finished it and that is rare for me. I couldn't get into the story line and the acting was nothing special. I don't think I would recommend this movie to anyone.
I chose to watch this movie because I enjoy most vampire movies but this one I would rate just middle-of-the-road as far as a vampire flicks go.
As a psychological thriller, however, it is actually quite well done, and, in fact, I never fully understood whether the makers of this movie are trying to get me to believe vampires were real or not in their world.
The acting could be considered just so-so by many, but in the context of the deluded main character, (Cage's) it can be seen as quite believable. The supporting roles were acted out decently and should not be considered by any stretch of the imagination to be "B-movie" quality. Quickly judging the "worst" acting job in this movie (the main character) would be a mistake considering how difficult the task obviously was.
Still, the movie was not terribly entertaining, being slightly thought-provoking at best, and not to be taken seriously as a vampire/horror flick. It is actually one of the very few movies I have seen which I genuinely do not know whether to recommend or not.
OK - If really pressed into it...NOT!
This is the first movie I saw with Nicolas Cage. I've followed him since then, and everything he's been in I loved! I love this movie because it's morbidly hilarious! After watching this movie I had read an article on Nicolas from the scene in the movie where he actually ate that giant waterbug, which really, is a ROACH! He was sick for a couple of months and had to cease the completion of the movie........ROTFL (rollin' on the floor laughing). Nicolas my boy, you need HELP! hahahahhahaaaa What I dislike about this movie, is the roach part (I cover my eyes-weak stomach) and I dislike the ending!
Nicolas is a fantastic actor, be it funny or a serious role for him.
Nick Cage before he was Nick Cage... a classic, dark comedy. One of my favorites!! If you like this, you should also like Cemetary Man, and Serial Mom..
