Though in the past, they've often been lumped in with the likes of the Biz due to their penchant for mixing hip-hop and heavy metal, UNTOUCHABLES represents a step forward. Part of the reason may be the involvement of producer Michael Bienhorn, who old-timers will recall as a founding member of early-'80s avant rock/funk/jazz outfit Material. Whether its Bienhorn's influence or just the band's desire to progress (we're betting on a combo of both), the songs here are full of carefully delineated and sung melodies (though Jonathan Davis's sore throat from hell won't bring Frank Sinatra to mind any time soon). The attack of the guitars and drums is just as unrelenting as before, but the expanded song structures and grooves (somebody's been listening to early Killing Joke) will put the lie to all the naysayers who consigned these guys to the nu-metal scrapheap in the past.

Editorial Reviews
8 out of 10 - ...A return to former golories...it's good to know Korn can still rock like Armageddon....Korn blows the opposition to atoms.
NME

...Korn continues to dominate the genre it spawned and, as always, we will continue to follow the leader.
CMJ (20020701)

8 out of 10 - ...Their darkest, most impenetrable record yet....a mammoth, labyrinthine record...
Alternative Press (20020701)

4 stars out of 5 - ...Melodic without losing any of their splenetic power, this is Korn at their most accessible...
Q (20020801)

3 stars out of 5 - ...Simultaneously lighter and heavier...producer Michael Beinhorn helps Korn's vicious rhythm section pound harder while expanding the band's higher frequencies...Staying sober has enabled Davis to achieve subtleties far beyond his death-metal belch...

The album that first got me into metal

I saw the music video for 'Thoughtless' back in 2002 on VH1 in a hotel room in Maine. That song instantly became the heaviest song my ears had heard, and I was hooked immediately. Prior to hearing that tune, my musical interests were very, very lame. Basically whatever was popular I listened to just because everyone else was. But Korn was the band that opened the wide and diverse door to the world of metal music, and here it is 2008 and metal is still my favorite style of music. Now, I must say I've quite outgrown the whole nu-metal craze and gotten into more mature heavier bands such as Opeth, Megadeth, Suffocation, Death, Mastodon and so on. But Untouchables will always be very special to me, no matter how many people complain about how polished the sound is or how Jonathan Davis' lyrics are basically the same thing throughout all 14 songs. If you want your nu-metal with a slight goth/industrial edge, this is the CD for you.

Another great album from Korn

So I bought this CD while purchasing the whole Korn collection because I think they are amazing. This is one of my favorite CDs from them because it has one of my all time favorite songs from them. I was very excited about this CD because it has Thoughtless on it. I originally heard this song when Amy Lee of Evanescence did a cover of it on the live CD Anywhere but Home. I am a bit partial to her version but the original is also amazing. If you are a Korn fan or even if you aren't, this is a good CD to hear. Best songs are Thoughtless, obviously, and Here To Stay.

One of the most awesome metal bands still playing!`

I'm a major Korn o phile! I really love this CD especially Thoughtless. It really expresses many things I remember in high school hell. I really think that Jonathan Davis must have gone to my high school! It's not my favorite Korn CD, that honor goes to "Take a Look Into the Mirror" with Right Now and Counting on Me. If you love loud, screaming and cussing singers like I do, then try it, you'll like it.
