In general, these cans are superb. The music is rich, perhaps slightly biased to bass, but not annoyingly so. The build quality is nothing short of outstanding. These are ultra-luxury headphones and they look every bit the part. No one will doubt you spent a small fortune on these cans, if that's what floats your boat. As a work of mechanical art, they're breathtaking. Every part fits precisely. All materials used are of the highest quality. From every angle, the stereotypical marks of German engineering excellence abound. These cans compare favorably to the Sennheiser HD800, the Grado PS1000 and the BeyerDynamic Tesla T1, all of which I own. Each has a different music fingerprint and look. The HD800 is very large and needs a powerful amplifier to sound its best because of its relatively high impedance (the T1 is also in this category). The PS1000 is enormous and ugly but sounds beautiful. The T1 has a more modest footprint and sounds more neutral than any of these, including the Edition 8. However, the Edition 8 has relatively low impedance so an amplifier is not absolutely necessary (I wouldn't use any headphone without one but not everybody wants to spend the extra money). The point is that an amplifier isn't a necessity with the Edition 8 as further proved by its use of 3.5mm plugs for portable music devices. It's also the smallest of these 4 cans. Of these four, only the Grado is USA manufactured (Brooklyn, NY). The others, including the Edition 8, are all German-made. The warranty is also outstanding (among the very best I've seen). It's 5 years out of the box and extended another 2 years to 7 years total if you register the unit with Ultrasone. The only negative is the tight fit, especially for large headed people. Anyone with this issue should look for a different set of cans. Also, the cables are not the typical 6.3mm. Rather, they're the 3.5mm typically used for portable music devices. There's no problem finding adapters (one is included) but be aware that an adapter is needed for 6.3mm applications. A beautiful travel bag is included but no presentation or storage box. If a box is desired, it will have to be purchased separately (I don't know where); only a case is available from Ultrasone and it also must be purchased separately. The only regret I have in acquiring these cans is not splurging an extra $$$ for the Limited Edition. If potential resale value is a consideration. look at the Limited Edition 8s. For those, the entire production run is limited to 888 units. Any demand beyond that will have to be satisfied in the resale markets. There's no difference between the two models except the Limited Edition uses Paladium instead of Ruthenium and, of course, the limited production run. The drivers are the same.
I have bought this headphone by unexpected, I never had full size headphone before, my friend told me if you going to buy this one it will be the only one you buy. The sound look great then I had ordered with my friend. The Ultrasone Edition 8 is very fit to me, I love to listen to musics and movies, this is the best one for all. I love it so much, more than my imagination when I watched many reviews during I was waiting for it. Only 1 thing is about I will suggest to everyone who want to buy this headphone is the time for burn in because when you use it the first time you will tire about all the detail that you listen to.
