This DVD Boxset is excellent. It has commentaries on both movies In Like Flint and Our Man Flint. Nine mostly original featurettes from the 60s and the awful TV Pilot Our Man Flint Dead on Target from 1976 as further special features. This pilot is said to have been "lost" and unfortunately has been found again. The two movies with James Coburn are of course classic Spy spoofs, "Move Over James Bond, step aside Austin Powers". Athletic Coburn is a great superspy for the Zonal Organization of World Intelligence (Z.O.W.I.E.). The movies are presented in a 3 disc set in slim line cases, with English and Spanish subtitles. Sinle layer discs presented in Widescreen.
There are many of us Flint fans out there and this box set is just about perfect for us. Now we can watch Flint doing his thing as often as we get the urge to.
Sadly, "Our Man Flint" and "In Like Flint" were the only two feature films made with the dashing James Coburn portraying Uberspy Derek Flint… A man whose talent, prowess, intellect, magnetism, etc were all well above the norm (like somewhere in orbit around Pluto). These films were America’s answer to the James Bond franchise but were done with tongue in cheek humor (imagine if you will a lighter that has 82 different functions… 83 if you count lighting a cigar!).
If you’ve never seen these movies, you ought to be in for a treat and for the most part, the featurettes are a nice bonus.
As for the 1976 lost TV Pilot "Dead on Target" also included in this collection, it should have stayed lost… The least said about it the better.
I have always loved these movies but had no idea that I could get them on DVD the collection I bought was a 3 DVD set the 2 original movies plus a DVD of special features... 9 never before seen featurettes... and a bonus of a lost TV movie pilot "our man Flint:Dead on target" this lost pilot does not star James Coburn instead its Ray Danton although the TV pilot isnt as good as the 2 movies with James Coburn it IS part of the Flint series completing the set
I have loved these movies ever since I was small. Not nearly so serious as most of the Jame Bond movies. James Coburn is excellent as the supremely confident and amazingly knowledgeable Derek Flint, Master Spy. He solves the worlds problems while surrounded by some of the lovliest ladies and femme fatale ever to grace the screen. He never seems to be fazed by the action and adventures going on around him. Very clever and very funny. It makes me think of another great James Coburn movie, " The President's Analyst". If you enjoy the Flint collection, you will also like "The President's Analyst" or "Harry in your Pocket".
Picture quality is pretty good for an older movie. However, no 5.1 sound only old fashioned stereo. I remember seeing this at the movies when I was a kid.
This was America's answer to James Bond. They aren't in the same league. Flint was so over the top that even as a kid I rolled my eyes. However, it was nostalgic seeing the movies again. And there is a bonus unseen TV pilot for Our Man Flint (it's video quality is like an old VHS tape). I never heard of the actor playing the TV Flint, but it's nice to have to complete the Flint collection. If you are a fan of the 1960's over the top spy craze, then add and extra star and buy this now, because when they are gone, I doubt they'll be pressing more of these. View these movies as high camp and you may enjoy them.
