Excellent Movie!!! Usually, sequel movies are just a rip-off of the original, but this time, the sequel is a real continuation of the original and is truly as good. The two Jakes - Jake Gittes and Jake Behrmann. It is 1948 now, and Jake is a big time PI, a far cry from the Peeping-Tom, dirty picture taking sleaze-bag operator of twelve years ago. Jake is engaged to a classy lady, and things are good. But his luck is going to change when he takes a divorce case with a cheating wife. In a typical motel room surveillance case, all goes to hell when his client, Jake Behrmann loses it, forces the door open and shoots and kills his cheating wife's lover. No matter how innocent you are, how can you explain how this can happen? It looks like Jake Gittes is somehow involved. As it turns out, Behrmann's wife is a ghost from Jake Gittes's past, Kitty Mulray, the daughter of Evelyn Mulrey, who was shot and killed by the police in Chinatown twelve years before. If this wasn't bad enough, The man killed by Behrmann was his business partner, and now, by the terms of their agreement, Behrmann stands to own 100% of the business. Jake Gittes don't know which way to turn. The police will surely come after him if they find out; The wife of the dead man is going to sue Jake Gittes, and Behrmann's best friend is head of the local Mafia (supposedly Mickey Cohen), Mickey Nice. As it turns out, Behrmann is dying of cancer, and his partner was trying to cut him out too. There was also a oil drilling swindle that his partner was involved with that could make the real estate development worthless. There is a lot of plot and intrigue in this movie, and it is a perfect sequel to Chinatown. This is a good one!
A follow on to Chinatown. But excellent on its own. Jack (What can you say about Nicholson that hasn't been said and he's perfect) as Jake Giddes is involved in a shooting that brings back old memories. After going through run ins with a local mobster, the police,The victims wife and several temblors (not tremors) gets a handle on things. Madelein Stowe is great and great looking.
Jack Nicholson Stars and Directs this sequel to "Chinatown".
The story starts out with "Jake" Berman( Harvey Keitel) shooting his business partner Mr. Bodine in a Motel room with his wife, Kitty( Meg Tillis).
Madeline Stowe portrays Lillian Bodine, the new Widow with a motor simmering inside, and Perry Lopez returns as Capt. Lou Escobar.
Some great camera shots, and Mr. Nicholson does have knowledge to be a Director.
Wanted the rest of the story of Chinatown. Quite impressed, as the movie had the clarity of newness. Better than the average copy.
