If you're looking for the most comprehensive collection from the "zone",which overlooks nothing. With bonus material that literaly defines comprehensive,(they even included the snl sketch),this is every t.z.ever made, every frame they could salvage included.A hollywood rollcall of the finest actors of the time.( The interesting thing is how many were unknown at the time.)This series was groundbreaking in the sense that it makes you think! The writers, actors, and Mr. Serling, whose job it was to deliver thought provoking drama, sometimes comedy,on a television budget, created a masterpiece. This series This is what television should have been.Precious few shows have left such an impression on its audience. The bonus disc however was a gratuitously apalling "don't smoke" ad in the guise of Mr. Serlings biography. It opens with our hero undergoing the heart surgery that claimed his life! In short, buy the set, shred the bonus disc, and buy the bio separate.
I cannot reccomend this collection enthuisatically enough for both Twilight Zone fans as well as fans of the Golden Age of television alike. This set has it all! Rod's 30 second plugs for next weeks episode, easy acess to specific episodes, great retro ads from the shows alternate sponsers and hours of outakes, interviews, Serling lecures and pilot episodes. In my opinion, this is the only way to view the classic TZ shows- - - - no commercials, no scene compression and no cut narration- - - - and no more red eye from watching 36 hours+ of sub-standard marathon re-runs. Well worth the $$$ price tag.
THE TWILIGHT ZONE I REMEMBER AS A CHILD SITTING IN FRONT OF THE TELEVISION SET, AND WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A COMPLETE SERIES OF THE TWILIGHT ZONE, I JUST HAD TO BUY IT. WHEN WATCHING THE MANY EPISODES, I REALIZED HOW MANY EPISODES I MISSED WATCHING WHEN TWILIGHT ZONE FIRST AIRED ON TELEVISION. BUT HAD A LOT OF GOOD MEMORIES WATCHING THE EPISODES I DID SEE, AND A LOT OF FUN WATCHING THE EPISODES I HAD MISSED. THE VERY LAST CD IN SEASON FIVE IS ABOUT ROD SERLING'S LIFE, THAT ALONE WAS VERY INTERESTING. ANOTHER ITEM THAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS COLLECTION IS EVERY EPISODE HAS IT'S ORIGINAL AIRING DATE.
Our family lived in Costa Rica when Twilight Zones first aired, so I never saw an original episode. But when I did I instantly became a fan. This boxed set of
ALL 156 episodes, in order from season 1 episode 1 is a MUST for any fan of
The Twilight Zone. The reason I bought it is in the review title. Video & audio
quality is very good. The only thing I don't like about it is having to select
each episode. This is because of the "special features" included with each episode. Iy's why I gave it a "good" rating. I would rather they played straight through, one episode after another. The're also short (10-15 seconds)
promos of other CBS shows. ie Wanted dead or alive, Andy Griffth, and a couple others. Like a lot of things these days, you get what you pay for. Don't go
el cheapo like I did. The first set I bought cost $79.00, shipped from Hong Kong, would play the 1st episode fine, then quit during the 2nd. I tested the video quality of severial disks and they were all the same. 0% video quality. I sent those back and got this set, which I'm very happy with. So get this set and you'll be glad you did. Thanks
I have always enjoyed watching the Twilight Zone on TV and every New Year's they run a Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci-Fi Channel. This year, the brand new, complete set was offered on Ebay for a very reasonable price compared to the mall stores. We chose this because it was the only set that offered the entire collection of Twilight Zone programs. My husband bought it for me for Christmas. Each of the DVDs contain the individual programs that Rod Serling created, and they are very clear and the sound is very good. And yes, they are all black and white. It is neat to see how many movie stars have been on the shows.
